Boy, that sure was a facetious space!
Lots of fat cells don't kill people, lots of fatty foods do

Actually Mat3, your realy problem is you're too busy arguing the against the wording of the other person and completely forgetting the intentions. If you want to argue semantics, go have fun in the thread about the word inalienable.
It IS true that athletes tend to have strong bones, mostly due to a healthier diet and proper exercise which makes it such that their body is generally more conditioned for abuse. However, they also put their bodies through more abuse. An obese person doesn't sprain their ankle from running 500 laps in the morning, or break their arm when they take a bad fall playing basketball. Why? Because they generally don't do these things in the first place. However, they still break bones and cause pressure and support problems with their spine because their bones aren't built to handle their body structure.

I hope I didn't come across as saying that athletic people are not healthy. The strengthening of the heart and bones more than out weighs the added stress of the extra body mass.
As for the physical activity: people get hurt in sports, it happens, its called an accident. However the athletic person will likely be less injured than a normal or overweight person given the exact same accident.
Sorry, I thought that was a given. I guess there are no "givens" here.

I'll put something here eventually...

Who was that flippant man?
And yes, I was being facetious, I assume you were talking about stress fractures etc. , but they can be prevented.

Did you imagine the final sound as a gun? Or the shattered windows of a car? Did you ever imagine the last thing you'd hear as you're fading out was a song?

It's odd how Mew Guy can be very right, yet so wrong at the same time...
It's true that obesity itself is not strictly responsable for a large portion of health problems that obese people have. It's the lifestyle that CAUSES them to be obese that contributes to their health problems.
That said, and as already noted repeatedly, obesity brings loads of problems in itself. Excessive weight causing joints to break down, much higher burden on the heart and lungs, compression of internal organs, greater surface area for the occassional stray bullet to hit, etc etc.
It's cause and effect, with the cause having several effects, and some of those effects being the cause of their OWN effects. Make any sense? Yes? No? Oh wait, I don't care...
Whatever, I'm not fat, yet.
