Evil Spyware (Ads234)
I've somehow got this insidious bit of spyware on my computer, and I can't get it off. I've run the most up-to-date versions of AdAware and Spybot and MacAfee.
What it is is apparently called ads234 ... oftentimes when I load a page, it loads it up redirecting it through an add-showing side, ads234.com , and it waits there for several seconds. It also seems to be fucking some stuff up just by redirecting through there.
It's pissing me off! Does anyone know it, and know how to get rid of it?
You gotta run ad-aware and such in safe mode.
Teran is right. The newest spyware's are pretty resistant against being killed while they are still running in memory. Best bet is to hit F8 a few times before the "Windows is loading.." screen. If you get the timing right, you'll see a list of options. Pick "Safe Mode w/Networking" (so you can update all your tools before you scan) then scan in Safe Mode. This should solve your problem.

Otherwise you could always go manual on its ass. Go in your register and remove the start-up thing. then close the running file in your task manager (assuming you have XP). then after that, also remove the files (usually in program files, in an obviously-named folder). But I don't suggest you do that unless you're sure on how to do it.
But that's how I get rid of my die-hard spyware... took me a few tries to get it right, but it works on the stuff coming straight out of hell.

Ary, removing the start-up item in the registry is completely ineffective if the offending process is still running, as most of them have checking mechanisms in place to make sure you haven't mucked around with it.
