I get that too with my last name. I think only 1 or 2 persons ever got it right in my life. It's not ouwerkerk, odekerk, oderkerke, ouwekerk, odenkerk, udenkerk.. just simple, oderkerk.

The one thats happened with my last name that I'll never understand is how people think it's Christiansen for some weird reason. It's Christian dammit. Though at that one awards ceremony I sat next to a guy named Nathan Christiansen, which is my first name as well. When they said both names my parents thought they were "correcting" themselves or something.

Sjoerd Overbeeke... which would sound something like "shard" with the "u" from "sure" instead of the a... last name would sound something like "Overbaker" or something...

Uberdork. There you go.
Most Brits don't have too much of a problem with Pronouncing or Spelling David Gower. They usually laugh, though, if they're over 25.
Sloth: Am I a year behind already?

February was some lyrics or quotes month or something. I don't even remember what year all this was.

well, my last name was jiang, until my father immigrated to britain, where they changed it to cheung, which i (born is australia) had to settle with. i'll tell you now, worst name eva. anglos have a serious problem: so much so, that there is not even an attempt at trying to pronounce, i mean whats so hard? it mostly starts with che and goes anywhere from there. the variations differ so much. im basically forced to pronounce it wrongly when introducing myself just so people wont go "what, how do you say it?" and i have no idea why...note: i have a tame aussie accent, but i dont thing that has anything to do with it.
