Fable

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Sounds like an interesting game. Error noticed in the comic, at the bottom it says 2003.
Do you want to save before you quit?

Bwahahaha!! Fable has so many excellent points, and so many great features, but wrap it up in a nutshell and it's an achillies heel. It has wonderful graphics, almost taxing the xbox to it's limits, it's got great gameplay and many features, although it is a little short-lived. But hey, that's practically a requirement of any hack'n'slash.

But no, that's not it's weakness. It has high grades in everything except for one, blaring mistake..

THE STORY!!

It must have the most, undeniably, disgustingly HORRIBLE story of any RPG I've ever seen. The characters are about as interesting as cardboard pop-ups thanks to the fact they're never fleshed out, despite their incredible potential. The story just randomly flops about like a fish in it's death throes as it pops from one place to another.. Now, I know that stories, along with gamelife, have never been a good point of hack'n'slash genres, but this one really takes the cake. >_<

So, if you don't mind a story that is going to broadside your IQ with it's sheer "Sweet goddess make it stop!!"ness, if you don't mind an excuitating mistake that brings down an otherwise A+ game to a B, then this is for you. ^_^

Annnnd.. about getting an xbox.. You're telling yourself you're only going to get one game..

I told myself I was only going to get Halo.

I really did..

... I have both Morrowinds, PhantomCrash, and Fable..

I really did..

Fable is a good ass game. I've been playin it sence it first came out. It's in very involving and very addictive. It re-defines RPG's!

That's my opinion anyway :)
Can't you just put duct tape on it?

I don't know if I'd go as far as saying it re-defined RPGs, but it certainly is interesting to play a game where your actions really do have permanent consequences. And it's fun, to boot. I can sort of deal with the shallow story...I play Fable more to have fun with the fighting and questing than to have a compelling story. :D

Fable is an incredible game, but its quite short like people have mentioned.

I completed all the story quests, optional and reqiured in just under 13 hours.

The thing I couldnt do is get the sword of avo out of the stone, anyone know how to do that? Do you have to be of good alignment? Because I was evil all the way, I love killing the unsuspecting townspeople

When you first try to pull out the sword, it keeps track of the str stats you had at the time, you than need to raise you Physique by 5, toughness by 3, and helath by 2, or max out all your strength stats.

Anyway, Fable is an inredible games, it is the way all rpgs should be, the only 2 problem's are length, and its easy. I beat it 3 times(one time without leveling). Each time it took about 12-16 hours. And each time there was no challenge, I figured out that if you roll, you are invincible.

Anyway, other than it being too short and too easy, its a great game.

Ahh, see I just maxed out my strength. Health and toughnes were pretty null, as the game was really easy.

Play Fable using only skill sets. That's the challanging part. Really, fighter is the easiet, mage the next, and then rogue is the hardest. ^_^

I found Archer/Rogue to be easier to play with the bow at times than a Mage. Maybe because it takes soo much experience to level a single cool spell.

It took me 9 hours to beat it with full on horns and all evil, I also owned every possible building in oakvale. By hour 11 I was full on good and 30 years old, I had also maxed out all my stats. Its a fun game but I woluldnt have bought it. I especially would not have bought an Xbox just to play it, as i was also contemplating doing. Thank god for the communist enclave that is my apartment.

I played as rouge right off the bat, using archery. It is actually really easy. You max out guile and then can pick people off while they are looking for you.

I wonder if I'm the only person who can buy a game, never beat it, and be happy with the purchase. :P
