Ahem...

In response to why we've reached the top?

We were given the advantage, and then a bunch of powerful people have guarded it jealously for decades, through military and economic might like a covetous and violent dragon, constantly shovelling more people into its mighty jaws, shitting them out after the digestion to build their horde bigger and bigger, occasionally passing a gold nugget or two handed off to those crowded around, absorbing them as a part of its horrible might instead of simply devouring them.

It's not something pretty, or noble. It's a story of cynical ecnomic explotion and military might that's played out on a large scale since the end of World War II, though in a smaller scale, since before the American Revolution. Land of the free, home of the brave, the capitalist dream, they've all been pretty disguises, dressed-up excuses, not reasons. It's never been about truth, justice, equality, democracy ... its been about getting as much power as you can, however you can while maintaining that masquerade.
You know this as truth how?

Our dollars were very useful during the depression.

Compared to war torn France and Germany and the newly forged countries like Austria?

...are you ignoring American investment into postwar France post-1918? The Weimar Republic was doomed from the beginning, and Austria wasn't a newly forged country, anyway. Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary were all borne from her remains.

I have this question. How many of you guys are really generous people? Actively participates in charities, donates money to other people whenever possible? Cause I'm getting the feeling that a lot of you feel offended that other people are saying "Oh, this country or that country isn't generous" and somehow it relates back to the good things that you do, as if saying that you aren't generous and such.

Of course, another way of interpreting this is that you are offended by people criticizing this country about their generosity (thus lashing out), because you somehow treat other people's generous acts as your own credit.... but that's a really cynical or nasty way of looking at it, right? It's just that I think that a humanitarian filled with hubris is sort of an oxymoron.

I spent the last 4 years working at the local food bank.

Good observation YH. We tend to criticize the other about their lack of generosity while most of us don't do a thing for charity. Listen to this Chinese wise man !!

Food banks should pay anyone to work at them.

It was voluntary.

I work with an organization that weekly distributes food to the homeless, support my dads church with both fianances and work. By work I mean I preach for him when he needs it, set up all the electronic equipment, and other things. I could blather on about the rest of the stuff I do but I don't do all that for recognition, I do it to support and help those I do it for.

You know this as truth how?
I can't prove it "as truth", as I cannot read the minds of men and divine their true intentions. As you're not clairvoyant, either, you can't prove me wrong. You can say what you think, how you think I'm wrong, and why you think that ... but observation of history seems to, in my mind, favor my interpretation over whatever you're going to come back with.

But go ahead, anyway. It's an interesting topic to discuss.
