Tried new drivers and all that? Might want to post about it in the Computers section.

has anyone found the rambling vortigon easter egg?

if not, here it is:

-at the very end of the jetski levels, after you beat the boss helicopter, go through the gate into the smaller lake.
-keep going straight after going through the gate and you'll see two drainage pipes protruding from the side of the hill, one of which is open.
-park your jetski in front of the open one, jump up into the pipe (which is filled with toxic waste, so run +jump the whole length.

enjoy.

HL2's physics engine wasn't that bad considering. physics engines that are really accurate arnt that hard to write, the problem comes in when you consider processing loads and memory, not only are you dealing with large numbers of calculations or potentially large numbers of items, you are also going to want to deal with the other factors involved, like graphics, like AI, like user interface, music, sound effects (especially ones involving multi directional sound.) map terrain, lighting, and so on and so forth. when you take all this into consideration its no wonder they simplyfy the physics it has to deal with. given the choice what would you rather have? less loading or less accuracy.

In my opinion HL2 had a good balance. with well designed maps. but at the same time it is more release product of the engine which will be sold on to make other games.

I can't play it (400MHz Pentium II and a GeForce2 video card? Hell, no!), but a friend of mine got it. After watching him play it, here's what I think:
The physics are fricken cool. My friend spent his first half-hour of gameplay making an ass of himself, throwing things at the gaurds and anyone else he felt like throwing shit at. The breaking physics (for glass and wood) are cool, at one point he picked up a bottle, dropped it, and picked it up again, holding it like he was gonna cut someone with it (if only he could've... that'd be awesome). Another thing I like about it is that the physics aren't ridiculously exagerated like in most other games, and that adds to the realism. The sound effects were great, as the explosions were very realistic, too. The characters were waaay more realistic in appearance than the ones in Doom3. As for the environment, it doesn't look quite as detailed as Doom3 did, but then again, the creators of Doom3 pretty much just bump-mapped anything and everything. The story is great (after I saw the spoiler ending for Half-life 1, the ending for Half-life 2 made more sense. Until that point, I was like "WTF?"). The town of Ravenholm was a great level, very well designed and played out, adn very, very, VERY creepy. The fact that enemies could come from ANYWHERE at any time aws bad enough, but add the fact that you're stuck in azombie-infested town with a Russian fanatic with a shotgun.
Overall, I think it's one of the best looking games I've seen so far. I wish I could play it.
