FFXI Uninstallation problems
FFXI Uninstallation Glitch
I know I really should just contact Square on this, but somebody here might know the answer.. I've recently uninstalled FFXI to put it on my second harddrive, I remembered to shut down all the background programs and disable Norton Professional.. but I forgot one thing, I didn't disable the stupid Norton Protection on the Recycle bin.. so instead of getting 5 GB freed on my HD.. I have 500 megabytes, and that was just from continuely " Emptying Norton Protected Files ".. I've also Defragged, done a disk cleanup.. nothing seems to get me my space back. I've had this problem before ages ago but I can't remember how to fix it.. anyone else had this kind of problem before?

I didnt have that problem when i un-installed it, but i believe you can remove the protection from the recycleing bin in norton's settings.
also, dont forget to delete the file in the program files folder (assumeing you did this, but just mentioning it to be sure)
also, post this in the computer forum next time pls.

Try running Disk Cleanup on C:. Open the properties and just hit the Disk Cleanup button. See what it comes up with. It might be able to restore some space.
Otherwise, try going to the Tools tab and run the Error Checking program. It's possible that the files were deleted but never "reclaimed" so that they're still taking up space, but just invisible.
There are more extreme options to try after those, but those are the safest.

Format! BWAHAHAHA!
You might try a checkdisk assuming you're on windows xp. That usually frees up leftover file fragments and whatnot. chkdsk /f/r in your run command. It's my best friend, though it takes a freaking lifetime to run.

Note to self: When working with motor oil and cooking a delicious treat, always wash hands in between.
The first thing to try next is to see if the files are still there, but hidden. This assumes Norton doesn't do anything too screwy with the file system and just hides copies of the files.
Go to Tools, Folder Options, then to the View tab. Choose "Show hidden files and folders" and clear the checkbox for "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)". Go to the directory and see if the files are there.
If they aren't, you can then go back to Disk Cleanup and go to the More Options tab and choose the Clean Up option under System Restore.

I'm thinking temp - I only ever used Norton AV but maybe yours makes backups of C:\ files? Also maybe something like windows restore or something has kept a backup?
