I just wanna say I feel Greg`s pain.

DOWN WITH UW CONTROL ! LONG LIVE MONOGREEN STOMP !
Seriously, while control decks ARE beatable, they immensely piss me off.
I can only stand back and think "Counter all you want... Just remember, you can only have 4 Mana Leaks in that !@#$^ deck of yours."

Ooh, Upheaval! Now there's quality control cards. I wonder how the obvious Force of Will and Morphling would be handled

Magic peaked back at Revised. All downhill since then. Except maybe for Dark.

I personally think that magic peaked during Ice Age, and held that peak for a while. The problem nowadays is that they make cards that are OBVIOUSLY broken and generally even more powerful than cards they've made in the past that they already admitted were overpowered. When I did play, I played blue/artifact lockdown (using the old Icy Manipulator/Winter Orb trick), and people hated my deck cuz if they hadn't won the game in 4 rounds they were as good as dead. It just took me a damn long time to kill you. Still, at least I had the commen decency to not use bounce cards. Those just piss people off.

Agreed, I got out of Magic shortly before Ice Age came out, and I took my old deck out (which might not have been the best in the world, but it had kicked quite a few butts in it's day) against someone who had a barely passable deck (by today's standards) and couldn't do jack to save my life.
If it wasn't for the whole collectable aspect, and if not for the fact that WoTC can only keep the game going by constantly releasing cards that overpower 90% of the cards they've released in the past, it wouldn't be a bad game. The actual mechanics aren't bad, everything else just sucks.

Well, my deck was one of those that wasn't built around the combo so much as built around the cards IN the combo. One of those decks where just about everything was a semi-combo with only 1-2 actual combos. For example, I used Black Vise in it which would punish you for not being able to cast spells, Propoganda to make you pay to attack, which if I had the Icy out I'd just tap the creature you paid to attack with or, with orb, it costs you that much more. Stuff like that is the kind of deck I played. Nothing was powerful or game-breaking on it's own, it was the way it all worked together that drove people insane.

Almost my entire deck is bounce cards. How do you have a blue deck worth using if it isn't a stalling deck?
Greg and I were playing this scenario and I was down to 1 health. He was about to crush me. I then used an artifact that allows me to tap all of his creatures while I used Fountain Of Youth to get back to about 10 or so health. I also used a sorcery card that said any spell used would be countered and sent back to the owner's hand. Then when he dispelled the sorcery, I used Upheval. We finally had to call a truce because it was getting too late to play. I almost lost, but I was able to bring it back. I haven't seen any blue cards that have big monsters to go up against any of the other deck's monsters. So you play blue with as much stalling as you possibly can until you can whittle them down.
Over half of my deck is instants which counter almost anything. Thats the way you gotta play!

Counterspells are definately important, but my deck worked off the premise of "Oh, sure, you have creatures. Doesn't mean you can USE them, but you have them."
I work with the idea that I shouldn't need to add stalling power to my deck if I can instead find a way to get in control faster. In some cases, Bounce is used as both, but I prefer to control the root of everything a deck does: mana. Lemme tell ya, Power Sink was a very underrated card.

Best game I had was when I played teams with 3 other people.
My team - Black Deck and a Blue/Green Deck
Other Team - Red Deck and White Deck
End game came when my partner had tapped 15 of his 16 lands and brought out two cards. I countered 2 of the atempts to kill it. My turn I threw trample on the creature. Then Counter another atempt to kill. When his turn came it ended with them crying about not banning unglued cards.
