2004-12-09: I don't get it

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

My guess is that he went to the video store and was trying to rent a new movie, but in order to do so, he had to go through an extensive credit check, due to the fact that he had Howard the Duck for such a long period of time. At least that's how I interpretted it.

Yeah, looks like it's still the video store storyline.

I figured he had to get a loan to pay back the late fees before he could rent any more movies.

Not sure if this has already been suggested but... why didn't he use the time machine to return it on time?

Teh funnay comes from it sounding like a loan approval process. When was the last time you racked up enough fines at a video rental store that you required assistance in paying them off?

BTW... Greg and Alan Extra seem to be having a lovers' moment in the last panel. It's customary for men to use their right hands to shake, not for the dashing, mustashioed man of authority to use his rugged right hand to hold the plaintive, younger man's supple left hand.

Actually, has anyone tried to get a Blockbuster account lately? The last time I tried, I couldn't because I didn't have a credit card. I have a VISA logo on my check card, which is a hell of a lot more reliable than a credit card, if you ask me. It took me years to pay off about $3k in credit card debt, so once I did, I threw them all away. Anyway, I went into Blockbuster to get a card. They want a credit card and all kinds of other documentation including, but not limited to, your car registration that MUST be under your own name (not your even your husband), your voter registration card, and I forget what else. (They have a list.) I had a voter registration card at the time, but it was at home. I was hanging out with friends on the *other side* of the island. The customer service guy suggested I drive home and get it. I explained to him where I lived and he said I should get a Blockbuster card in my own area. In any case, I help up the line and people were getting annoyed, so I just left. In any case, I'm guessing that Greg has a credit card, so he was able to rent movies. Lucky. I still don't have a Blockbuster card and after the CS guy told me to drive all the way home, I don't plan on ever getting one.

When I went in last week, all I had to do for Blockbuster is fill out a little piece of paper and show them my driver's license. Of course, considering where I live, I'm surprised they even cared about that. Where do you live that they have your life history in order before you can rent anything?

Greg, I think it'd help visually if we were to have a light outline color for Alan's right arm, as it is difficult to differentiate between the dark blue blob of his body and his arm that, after closer inspection, is actually extending across his body to shake Greg's hand.

Oh! Videostore! That was the missing piece to the puzzle! My, not to sound overly critical, but that could have been made a little bit clearer...
