Here is where I profusely thank my mom for not letting me watch a lot of cartoon shows when I was a little kid.
Why?
("why are you thanking her?", not "why did she do that?")

Because I now have no feeling of having wasted my childhood in front of the boob tube. Not to mention excellent reading skills.

So, ever since books came into my schooling, I've been reading quite "above my level". I also watched a lot of cartoons, and played video games. Does this mean that if I'd done neither of the two, I would have been reading actually college-level or higher books by the end of elementary school?

Indeed. In kindergarden, I loved both Power Rangers and Roald Dahl.

Yes, it was the same for me (well, not Power Rangers, but there was other stuff. She-Ra). Did you get the impression that I didn't watch tv at all?

I never said anything like that.
Rather, there are a couple of shows that people here have listed as being brain-rotting crap, and I remember wanting to watch those shows once upon a time. Mom did not let me, however, because they were brain-rotting crap.
SF, I think you were reading WAAAAY too much into that statement. Stop going all Deacon.

Ow.
Haha, alright, that's fair enough.
Ow.
I'm sorry.

I’ll take a moment now to preemptively apologize to Deacon, since even Deacon doesn’t “go all Deacon” so much anymore. (You've been verbed!)
Back on topic, I've been wanting to watch Fraggle Rock again. I used to LOVE that show, and I hear it was, in fact, extremely good. I hope my expectations haven't become too high, now.

Accer, the closest you'd come would be "adverbed" or "adjectived"

I think it would be adverbed... Because in the statement "I just went Deacon," "Deacon" is describing the verb, "went."
(Yay for boredom.)

I just find RISC processors very dull (unless you made it yourself, then that's impressive, it's like buying an expensive car, well done you can spend money.

The Adventures of Birdman was a kids show back in the day. That horrible old 70's era superhero crap (a la original Space Ghost, etc). Harvey Birdman is a recent adaptation of the old Birdman characters (including evil villains) made for Adult Swim. "Biiiiiiiiiiiiirdman!" He got his powers from the sun, without which he was weak and hardly "super" at all. He had a "solar shield" that he could manifest out of thin air as long as he was in direct sunlight, etc.
Cartoon Network got the rights to all the old Hanna Barbara stuff, which is why they can do that kind of thing. Apparently a couple of people with the job of going through all this stuff ended up being bored one day and writing this whole new theme song for a non-existant show about Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. One of the programming directors ended up hearing it and loved it so much that he decided they should make a show about it just so they could use the theme song. So they took the Birdman characters and just swapped everything all around, where "the Commissioner" type guy (the one with the eye patch) was the senior partner at this law firm, and Birdman was "Harvey Birdman", including Avenger, his eagle, Boy Wonder (or whatever his name was), the villains were the prosecutors, etc...
Great stuff.

I'm so glad this doesn't happen with video games or the other half of my childhood would have been as much of a waste as this half was.

Recently, Madman has been licensing retro series (Astro Boy and whatnot) and so a friend of mine who used to watch Astro Boy when he was young picked up a few volumes. I however never saw it, so when I came to watch it (PC Powerplay had the 1st episode on the DVD) I was disappointed. It was so full of plot holes, the characters were disgustingly cute, and I just didn't get it at all.
