I'm so glad this doesn't happen with video games or the other half of my childhood would have been as much of a waste as this half was.
I don't know about that. I played one of those retro 'Activision' packs and let me tell you, Pitfall just sucked. The problems of advancing technology and depth. You get spoiled by the richer experiences of what's new. I think the same is probably true of most things. Of course, the more 'life experience' you have, the more you can relate to a broader range of items and ideas, so I guess that's just to be expected.

This spoilage of which you speak depends on the person. Some people don't hold the limitations of the technology the developers had to work with at the time against them. Doing so would be unfair. And then you have those games that are fun no matter how much time passes.

Indeed. For instance, Contra III: Alien Wars. Get a friend and start shooting up aliens all over the place. No plot, no drama, just pure testosterone. Ooh, or Street Fighter 2. Or if you want to go really old, you have to get some one on one Karate Champ going. Oh yeah, baby. Detailed.

And I believe that IS true of some games. I still enjoy Pac-Man and Defender, for instance. It just isn't true of all games I used to enjoy.
