Move to Seattle, yo!
Lynnwoods a nice area, and the Alderwood mall is better then alot of the malls to the south. *cough* Supermall, Seatac mall *cough*
Glad to hear that its a pretty nice area, and not somewhere like Whitecenter (which in some areas can look deceptivly nice).
Maybe by the time you get up here we will actually have a governor.
The mornings have been really beautiful as of late. (I do live down near the sound in Des Moines) But we have been having some low hanging fog in the morning that makes everything look like one of those serine pictures. One of the things I love about it. Ive been here about 3 years and I am still finding new sights that just leave me entranced.
But yeah... any help ya guys need. Feel free to ask.

Liz, Greg,
I hate to tell you guys this, but the weather in the area you are moving to is just like what you would find in Everett. In fact we have NOT seen any MAJOR amounts of snow, certainly not enough to have to shovel your driveway since 97. It's been getting progressively milder since then. Yes snow has fallen, but it has never been more than a light dusting.

Were you in the area earlier this year? Al off Western Washington shut down for nearly an entire week because everything was covered in at least an inch of snow, if not more. The entire University District was closed, every COLLEGE was closed, schools were a joke, and then the temperature dropped and EVERYTHING froze over in half an inch of ice.
It was really cool!
Don't worry though, guys, that usually only happens once a decade. In 1984 there was a hug snow storm Thanksgiving Weekend, and in 1992 there was a really big wind storm that knocked out power to all of Seattle. (I've seen the Seattle skyline at night with no lights. It's beautiful.)
But other than that, the weather is mild. Just buy a sweater or two if it starts getting really cold, and make sure your bagpack, coat, and shoes are water proof.

For some reason the comic about Oregon's weird way of putting up signs and our tempremental cops made me laugh. Maybe because I live here and had to go through driver's hell, er, drivers-ed to figure out what the heck is going on (you think there is logic behind it, but there really isn't)...
Try going through school zones, those make for fun tickets
Stupid democratic state, can't even get our roadsigns right...

Love the Oregon comic. I cannot stand driving down there. When my family raised guide dog puppies and back when I was in Key Club, I made the trip down I-84 numerous times and it's horrid. The ruts are huge, if they fill with water an AWD car still manages to lose traction, the signage is blah, lowered speed limits and the fact that you can get pulled over for driving in the left lane if you are not passing...Cross the border and things get all better...except at least Oregon has a governor.

That's right. Stay the hell out of my lane unless you have a reason to be there

Yay Puget Sound! I moved here in 1995 from Hawaii, and was disappointed in how little it rains... for daily rain, go be destitute in Hawaii. Anyway.
A note for the college student in the house - I moved to Seattle to attend the UW. This state BLOWS when it comes to out of state students - you can count on tuition being close to 3X in state tuition. (I know - I paid out of state until I got my resident standing at the UW.) So, unless Private College/Univ is where she's going, getting residency started asap is a good thing.
Those that grant resident status require you to have "lived" in washington for 12 months before you are considered a Resident. They use the day you got your Washington Drivers Licence or ID to begin counting. The application also asks for a big pile of other assorted documentation indicating you live in Washington and intend to make Washington your home. (you may want to grab a copy or request one be mailed to you so you can see it. My application was over 1" thick by the time I was done & turned it in.) If you have friends in WA, and can use their address as your "residence", You could do things like get a WA driver's licence/ID, hook up a cheap cellphone with a 206/425/253/360 area code, whatever would make it look like the student in question lives in WA.
Fortunately, Washington will count time spent going to school towards your qualifying for residency - in 1994 when I was deciding where I wanted to go, Oregon's rules said you could not go to school while qualifying for residency.

Are you guys serious about driving in Oregon being horrid? I mean, drivers aren't great, but no worse than what I've seen in Washington or California and a damn site better than the big northeastern cities or - god forbid - Japan. Granted, they drive better in Minnesota, but they're way too nice out there in general. I always found road conditions on I-5 to be pretty good (I mean, once you figure out how to hydroplane it's all good), and as for lower speeds.... well, they never slowed me down, or anyone else for that matter. Nor did I ever see terribly many cops set to enforce said limits. I know that's all anecdotal, but I drove on Oregon highways frequently for around 5 years to come up with this assessment. And hey, I love my state so I gotta stand up for it.
