Best Album of 2004?

Post by RaxeLamb » Sun Dec 19, 2004 2:49 am

Well since the year is almost over, what were your favorite albums that were released this year?

My three choices for the best albums released would have to be between

Apostle of Hustle - Folkloric Feel
The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News

But if I had to pick just one it would be Folkloric Feel. Really great album, if you haven't heard it, I greatly recommend it.

Nightwish - Once.

Great album.
Control is an Illusion - Days of Thunder
Drive fast, Take Chances, and Don't look back - A damn smart bartender

A lot of people worship Ender Wiggin - Rorschach

or
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand

To give into the indie hype and countless review sites out there, I would go for The Arcade Fire album. I'm still waiting to buy a used CD version. Hopefully in supply after the holidays. The Franz Ferdinand album is really good but less diverse than Funeral.

I seem to have problems coming up with anything else even in the ballpark released this year. Everything I've bought recently is pre-2004. Sad in retrospect.

If you decide to broaden it, mine would move over to being Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People

If voting were available for individual posts, I would certainly vote for Ender's choice.

Nightwish is teh awesome. I swear I've listened to Once more times than my roommate can stand. :P

I also agree about Nightwish's Once. Beautiful album. I really enjoyed Sonata Arctica's Reckoning Night as well--The Boy Who Wanted to Be a Puppet is just... superb. It's a bit of a stretch, but the 2004 reissue of Elegy by Amorphis is also a magnificent album, but I'm not sure you can really call it a 2004 album. :)

if we're going with albums released this year

In Flames - soundtrack to your escape
Green Day - american idiot
Shadows Fall - the war within

if we're going with albums we only heard this year

In Flames - Whoracle or Reroute to Remain (i can't choose)
Refused - the shape of punk to come
Cradle of Filth - Damnation and a day
I can count to purple backwards!

Ooh...good point there with the Green Day. I must say I'm very impressed with the new album.

In Flames - Soundtrack To Your Escape
Megadeth - The System Has Failed
Motörhead - Inferno
Nightwish - Once
Soulfly - Prophecy

Just to name a few... biggest letdown of the year would be Rammstein - Reise Reise.

Breed77 - Cultura.

(edit)
That said, Slipknot's Vol.3 surprised me greatly this year, by not being terrible. Incubus - Crow Left Of The murder is also great.
But to be honest, I bought so many this year, I forget how new some of them are.

Did you imagine the final sound as a gun? Or the shattered windows of a car? Did you ever imagine the last thing you'd hear as you're fading out was a song?
