Greatest Concert Experience

Post by andvari_7 » Sat Jan 22, 2005 5:30 pm

What was your greatest concert experience, be it performing or viewing?

I have a bit of both, actually:

Performing: My band getting the only standing ovation of the variety show (run by a choir director who didn't like us), for my stirring rendition of the hip-hop staple, "Ice Ice Baby." I will neither listen to nor perform that song again.

Attending: This is a toughie. I'd have to say the Sno-Core 1998 tour, with The Aquabats, Blink-182 and Primus. That night changed my life. I instantly became a Primus fan(atic), took music seriously and am now a decent bass player.

Well, the best concert I've ever been to was definately Bad Religion, followed closely by Blue Man Group because they put on an absolutely awesome show

Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Or maybe Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. The former got me listening to Beethoven constantly, the latter rekindled my love of Classical music.

Ya know, I forgot about the Trans-Siberan Orchestra. They just kick so much ass. It was a pretty bitchin concert. Hmm...probably ranks up and ties with BMG

Umm, I've only been to two concerts. One was a John Mayer concert, which I'll explain in a second, and a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert.

Both had an impact on my guitar playing.

First of all, the John Mayer thing. My sister and my friend's sister both wanted to go, but they were both to young to go alone or something (parents thought so) so my friend and I went with them.

Anyway, I had heard John Mayer's "No Such Thing" for the first time with that same friend and we both agreed he was quite a different guitar player/singer. This was proven when he ripped into the most amazing blues solos I had ever heard in the middle of his songs which weren't really bluesy at all. I just fell in love with his guitar work, and it has deeply affected my acoustic guitar songs in a very positive way.

I saw the peppers. We had the shittiest seats, we were literally resting our backs on the back wall of the stadium. It was such an awesome concert. The highlight of the night was when they played "The Zephyr Song." John Frusciante (the guitarist) totally changed the riff of the song that it wasn't until Anthony started singing that I knew what song it was. It sounded so awesome that I can still sing the part and it's been nearly 2 years since I was at the concert.

The Peppers released a DVD of a concert a month after the one I saw. I bought it hoping to hear that same rendition of that song, but sadly the DVD version sounded the same as the one on the CD. Still, it makes that night even more special...

Blink 182 and primus touring together? That seems really wrong somehow.

My best concert experience is when my friend and I got really fucked up,got our picture taken when we were crowd surfing, and long story short, towards the end of the show, my friend was walking around with the picture of us saying "Have you seen these pants?"

Best show? I would have to say Leftover Crack, River City Rebels, and a shitload of opening bands. Or any Knife Band show.
I really want to see Bad Religion and the Misfits.

It was before Blink got popular, and they were still good. But there were other acts on this tour, like Tha Alkaholiks and the Long Beach Dub All-Stars, which I didn't get to see.

Leftover Crack played over here about a month ago, maybe less. They're ok just a bunch of pricks. Anyway to make a long story short, when they came into the MIA this group of people called "The Spirit of 69" came and wanted to start a fight with them. In the end, they slashed their tires, smashed their windows, and just wrecked their van. It was fucking great.

Yes you most definitely do. Unfortunately for you, their last albums tour finished at Earls Court.

I've only been to two concerts, but both of them were excelent bands where I had great views.

The first was a Rusted Root concert which was standing room only in an old warehouse in downtown Pittsburgh. I was no more than 15 feet away from the stage there.

The second was a few years later, again in Pittsburgh at the Three Rivers Stadium. Dave Matthews Band, 11th row, just off center.

I've only ever been to one concert, i'm not even sure if it counts as a concert, as it was part of a conference i went to for Christian youth. It was called PlanetShakers. It was awesome. Sooooooo many people crammed into this church building. Paradise Church is one of the biggest churches in South Australia and it was packed. They had to open up the balcony, even during the day time sessions O_o.

The music itself was awesome, i've got the live recording somewhere of the final night.

The best part of the week was when during a break i ran into reggie dabbs and he gave me an almighty hug. Ever been hugged by a gigantic black man? Its an experience, he nearly broke a rib O_o. [edit] one of mine, not one of his[/edit]

Its a yearly thing, but i couldn't go this year i had a slight finacial and time problem :glare: and i felt guilty having to asking my parents to drive me to the otherside of the city each day & then again at night. At least next year i can drive myself around.

Misfits post involvement with Prowrestling = Pure CRAP!

Having said that, of all the shows I have attended, the best I would have to say was the first Lalapalooza show that ever hit KC back in the mid 90's. I had not only won the tickets, but also got to meet alot of the bands with my pass.
