Colorado Professor says 9/11 victims deserved it

Post by mikehendo » Fri Feb 04, 2005 3:36 pm

Its a little old, so sue me.. I didnt see it mentioned anywhere else.. Anyways, this professor belittled the victoms of 9/11, and even went so far as to compare the 9/11 victims to Nazis.. And the most he gets is review proceedings. CU is the same school that immediatley suspended thier football coach when he told the female kicker that she wasnt a good football player. Anyways, here are the stories about the professor from two local sources..

Ya, Churchhill shouldn't be fired (which he probably will), but the man should not be paid to speak on college campuses!

Well, I would agree that the Pentagon was a military target. However, I would have to read the full essay before making a decision. So far however, this guy is nuts.

Didn't Bjarni bring up the whole 500,000 children killed thing up a while ago? I could swear there was a huge debate over that...

Ward L. Churchill, chairman of the CU Ethnic Studies Department
Hahahaha! Sounds like they need a new chairman. Also, when I first read that, I thought I read that it was the ethics studies dept, not ethnic. Either way, this kind of mentality seems to be endemic to not only Colorado in general and CU in particular, but to university campuses and quietly radical professors all over the US and the world. Sad, isn't it?

Freedom of speech is probably why he wasn't treated the same as the football coach, who's actions the school likely considered sexist (even though it's entirely possible she wasn't good).

I still don't agree with his view, much like most everyone in the topic, but I'm not one to say he's not allowed to have it.

Wait, so racist is better than sexist? Or what?

Legally, so long as the "race" you're defaming isn't black, it largely is. :?

Well, mentions of stuff like calling the victims of the 9/11 attacks "little Eichmanns," referring to Adolf Eichmann who managed Nazi plans to exterminate European Jews for Hitler...

I dont believe that had anything to do with race. It's meant to compare the mass murders of innocent civilians by the Nazis to the 500,000 children killed by americans.

The guy didn't actually do anything illegal, did he?

If the football coach told the girl "You suck, get off the team" then she has a case (which in my opinion is incredibly stupid because gender shouldn't matter), but an essay is just an essay. It isn't going to directly affect anyone adversely aside from being a waste of time or giving the reader a paper cut or something.

Wait, so you have to do something illegal to be fired? Wow. I wish I'd known that a long time ago!

Killer-Rabbit, I think he just took a piss all up on Godwin's face with those lines, eh? And I'm sorry, but I'd love to see you support "500,000 children killed by americans."

Reading the essay will give you a better, unbiased argument of the subject.

EDIT: The thing I noticed in his essay is he has no grounds or supporting evidence for his numbers, or any other claim for that matter. Last time I wrote an essay and used numbers or supposed facts, my English teacher required suppoting documentation in the essay. Reason being, anyone can throw numbers around to make it sound bad or good or what ever, supporting documents strengthens your point and makes you look smarter in the proccess, meaning you did your "homework" on the subject. All he is saying, from what I see, is "42 bajillion people died, are you gonna ignore 42 bajillion? I mean thats a big number isn't it? You should feel bad for killing the world population 18 zenons over."
