Haha. I'm surprised to read there was another Dodge Spirit owner on the site, Waffle.
Here's my old ride. It's a 1990 Dodge Spirit base, with the 2.5L 4cylinder and a 3speed automatic.
It took thousands of manhours to get the paintjob to look just like that.

Here are my current rides. The white car is a 1993 Mazda MX6 RS (4cylinder, automatic). This car is currently for sale since my acquiring the black car, which is a 1993 Mazda MX6 LS (v6, 5 speed).

The black car is far from stock, however. It features:
Japanese KLZE engine swap (200hp, 170ft/lbs; 10:1 compression, 24v DOHC)
Custom shortram air intake
Eibach Prokit Lowering springs
Lightened Mx3 flywheel
Stage IIR clutch
B&M short throw shifter
RR-racing poly motor mount inserts
XM radio
etc, etc.
All work on the car was performed by me.........in my driveway........with handtools..............in the snow...............uphill.

A friend of mine also collects Mazdas and fixes them up, sells/shows them and such. Not bad at all.. maybe you can just.. uh.. loan me the white one for a few years? Not a big fan of white, but hey, the money I saved from buying a new car here pretty quick, can go to adding to the Mazda.. ya know.. the one you are giving me? That white one?

I hear ya. those celis can be pretty fun. A buddy of mine has a 6th gen that he is dying to do a 3sgte swap on.
As for mine, I'm building it for solo II autocross. since i have the jspec motor, i'm instantly in Street Mod class, so I'm building the rest of the car to be competitive within reason. I can't afford coilovers, but the eibachs and some adjustable struts (tokico illuminas) should suffice just fine.

Too bad it wasn't a '91. 91 and 92 they came with an optional 224 hp turbo engine. I thought the basic turbo 2.5 was torquey for a 4cylinder. 217ft-llbs@2800rpm. Out of an american 4 cylinder.
I would love to lay my hands on one of those engines for my Daytona. Then the 250hp goal would be a simple matter of upping the boost a few psi from stock.
Didn't the older daytonas have a 300/300 turbo package? Rare but not unheard of. IIRC It brought both HP and TQ into the very low 300's.
Daytonas were available starting in 84. From 84-87, a 146hp turbo 2.2L was avail with manual or automatic transmission. 87-89 had an available 174 hp 2.2L intercooled turbo with manual only. 88-92 a 150hp 2.5L turbo was available with manual or automatic. 90 had a intercooled 2.2L turbo with a special variable nozzle turbine (VNT), again manual only. 92&93 had the 224hp 2.2 DOHC intercooled turbo that debuted in the Spirit the year before. Yes, manual only. Production ended in 93. No production Daytona was available with 300hp from the factory. That doesn't mean the engines that came from the factory weren't capable of it.
You are thinking of the Super 60 kit, which was intended as a series of bolt ons for the 87-89 174hp engine. It was not available till 94, IIRC, which was after the Daytona had ceased production. The kit is still available, I believe, but now there are better options for go fast with an old fwd turbo Chysler, and there are better cars to use as a base platform for go fast in the first place. Like that stops me.
Yeah, I know my turbocharged K-cars a little better than a sane man should.

I my previous car was a 1991 Plymouth Acclaim, almost identical to Trent's Dodge spirit. Beasty little car on the highway, but a pain in the ass for city driving. I thought about digging around for a turbo for it, but then I realized that with a turbo the body would probably fall right off
Paint was peeling off everywhere (it was one of many in a batch that had defective primer). I started to work on the body and got the back end and one quarter panel painted, but then inspection ran up and found out that the exhaust system alone would cost more than it was really worth for me to keep the car.
Prior to that car however, I drove an 83 Olds Regency 98. That car was nothing short of a monster. 3.8L 6 Cyl engine. That car hauled ass even when it was parked in the driveway. :p

How do those imported trucks compare in torque (what a truck needs the most) to their american counterparts? I know my honda is gutless, but I've never driven or rode in any Toyota with a larger displacement engine.

Well it is a V6 but it does pretty good. If all you are looking for is towing I wouldn't get a tacoma. Although the 2005 models have a new motor gets 55 more HP stock and at 245 and 282 lb ft torque. Quite a bit more than mine.
