it everyone could dope themselves to become super athletes, then what would be the point. There would be no more great, naturally gifted quarterbacks, or at least if there were, they wouldnt get noticed. No great runningbacks. No great recievers.. and thats just football.
What if anyone could hit a homerun at any time? Wouldn't that take the thrill out of it? Or what if all pitchers could pitch soo fast that no one could reacte in time to swing at it?

It would become a sports 'arms race' at that point.

You'd still have to know the plays to run and such. Sports and expectations will adapt. There will always be a longing for the "old ways"/"old days", and in a free market, that longing will probably be met with organizations that require strict regulation of such things, while others will be a more Darwinian "survival of the fittest" kind of thing. No big deal, really.

Again, Mike, I have to wonder, you don't think it'd be really cool to watch football or basketball or something with some sort of "Atomic Supermen" (that's a Futurama reference, if you've ever seen that episode) who would whip out extreme feats of sports playing? Sure, no one naturally has a 15' vertical leap, no one can run sprint speeds at distance, or throw off several guys trying to pull him down, but I don't see why if people COULD do that, it would make the sport LESS fun to watch, instead of more ....

Because there's little if any challenge then. Defense in ANY sport is hard enough as it is. If the offense is full of superstars who can do anything, it's more like watching a Stunt Show than a sport.

That's why you'd have to have defensive players as enhanced as the offensive players.

Or you can just turn it into an Urban Brawl game. (Shadowrun reference.)

*Echoes what Fixer said, and resolves again to pick up Shadowrun, sometime*

The point is, it doesn't matter. Of COURSE you would enhance defense too. IT doesn't matter. Defenses now are pretty powerless to stop a good offense. It's inversely proportional. When an offense gets better, even if a defense gets EQUALLY better, The offense will still be more productive.

But with such technology, you can make Defense proportionally better, rather than equally better.

Nope, I dont think it would be cool in the slightest, it would be the death of sports, imho.. There would be no natural athleticism left..

But then, what would be the point of any enhancements at all?

I thought they were illegal because of all the health problems that came with them, rather than anything competition-related.

I don't watch sports anyway. Although if Urban Brawl came on, I might actually watch that just for sheer amusement.

I dunno fuggle, the leagues look negatively on all "performance enhancing" substances. I think the performance enhancing part is what matters most on league policies about those substances. That and the whole athletes being role models thing..

Oooh, you meant illegal, gamewise, not illegal in regards to criminal law illegal.

That and the whole athletes being role models thing..
Hey, if genetic doping can do away with that, too, all the better! :)

i dont think it would exactly do away with that, it would just lead to many childen wanting genetic doping to be like thier favorite athlete..
