Do I need to point out that all illegal use of firearms, and in addition, all accidents, are not done by these mythic "gangsters"?

Which isn't to say that illegally obtained firearms AREN'T used, and it's not to say that some people with legal firearms wouldn't obtain illegal ones if they had to, but ... it really annoys me when people try to pass off every incident of gun violence as some sort of malicious preplanned act that they'd obtain an illegal firearm for, if they wanted to.

Because that, too, is in blatant contradiction with reality.

The point, Fuggle, is that it is FAR more likely that somebody who lawfully obtains their firearm will use it in a lawful manner, and also FAR more likely that somebody who uses firearms illegally will not be prevented of possessing them by a change in the law.

Got statistics to back that up?

And do such statistics also include problems (from hospital visits to trips to the morgue) that come from misuse/mishandling of one's gun? (I'd be interested, if you took just that aspect of gun violence and broke it down between legal and illegal owners... )

Not at the moment, but are you ACTUALLY debating the idea that somebody who commits one crime is more likely to commit another than somebody who's never committed a crime at all?

I mean, honestly, correlation may not be PROOF, but it sure does stand for something.

I didn't say it wasn't MORE likely, I was just saying that I'm not so sure the percentage is as big as you're making it out to be.

(oh, yeah, crimes of passion and opportunity, don't forget those, too)

On revolvers: I shot Nick's at the range, and had to use two fingers just to pull the trigger. I have tiny fingers.

On shooting to kill: I've been robbed at gunpoint before. I remember thinking that I was going to die. The pure terror. I have no problems killing someone tries it again. Not to mention the many female hotel clerk horror stories. I have no problem killing someone that will potentially want to rape me, set me on fire, or kill me. Not at all. Or Nick, for that matter. I have dealt with enough death that I will have no problems killing someone trying to hurt me or the ones I love.

On Atlanta: It's a dangerous area. I work just off the main highway. There is more danger of being robbed where I work than somewhere 5 miles off the highway. That's how it is around here. Quick getaway and all that jazz.

I think you can have the ... whatever the technical term is for how much weight it takes to pull the trigger ... lightened. :)

Hm.

Its probably too much kick for you, but I think they make revolvers (yeah, there's also the trigger weight to worry about... ) that chamber high-gauge shotgun shells ( :o ). That way, if there's more than one guy, just aim between them at chest height, and ...

... bye bye mo fos.

I wasn't seriously suggesting it, because I can't picture you with a shotgun-handgun, anyway. :)

I doubt it. If they do, they are most certainly illegal here.

The trigger pull will be lighter if you just pull back the hammer before you plug 'em. You'll be doing that anyway with an automatic, unless you want to be carrying around a charged and cocked gun on you at all times...

Doubt what? That they sell 'em?

Seen 'em with my own eyes at a Texas gun show. Granted, it was a gun show in TEXAS.

And I think it was one of the most frightening places I've ever been to, ever.

That right there explains everything.
