Greg, About some concerns on this Iron Man thing... (Server)

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Greg, About some concerns on this Iron Man thing... (Server)

Post by Mysticales » Wed Mar 02, 2005 11:00 pm

Hey Greg, 1st off.. hope you kick their ass... so far I saw their comics and yours is still better and has more support.

However right now.. your in a critical stage of your hosting and server..

I mean all it takes is being down for ONE day to mess it all up...

I mean are you allowed a small domain to link to a mirror in case one site is down? This way if one site is down, you can have the other site post up one of those fan based fillin comics, so this way you KNOW you wont lose.

Dont know if thats allowed or not, but you can see where I am coming from or? That or have the RLC.com url link to a redirector to the 1st responding server that comes back or something.. kinda like how suprnova.org did their site linking the url to many mirror sites.

Just remember you have your fan based comics to use incase you cant make the one comic on time..

Anyways, think this would be a good thing to talk about or have others around to post a comic incase yours is down...

Think this would also be a post would also be good to have everyone post some concerns or comments to help insure you will WIN!

All it takes is someone to DoS your site and opps... you lost, rem NO EXCUSES.

And your talking of 1000$ here.. so yea.. think this is a good thing to talk about or? Or am I being paranoid?

Ahem.. "she" thanks. ;)

But yea.. I mean thats why this thread will be good.. to point out ideas to ENSURE Greg will win as well as site/domain ideas to make sure nothing like a DoS or server downage would affect anything.. why I think a domain linked to a auto redirector would be good.. this way it will always point to a working mirror.. but thats what I would do if there was a grand on the line..

Hell.. would even ask some friends to help out against the others.. heh.. talking alot of money and as I said.. only takes one hack or one DoS to kill you from the contest.. and I am SURE someone will do this..

Heh... well money does that to people.. besides.. I think everyone would agree.. Greg winning is something better then anyone else winning or? Cause if he wins, he will be so happy to do the comics and make new plots that we all came to love and expect.

I don't really care about the money, honestly. It's 1000 bucks, but that's not as much as it sounds. I'm just in it for fun.

But if something happens, I can always post my comic to the forum there, and they can consider it taken care of. The judges are pretty cool.

A thousand bucks is a lot of money when you find yourself eating old bags of chocolate chips that you can't afford to buy the butter to make cookies out of for lunch...

$1000 is really nothing. That's maybe a month of rent in a cardboard box in parts of California :P

How can you post it to their forum? I mean is that allowed 100%?
Thought it had to be on your own site and so.. not everyone will see its on their forums if you know what I mean. As they said.. no excuses.. least thats what I gathered from the rules.

I mean and if it is for fun.. still would be nice to make it to the last 5 people or? Heh.

$1000 would pay for an entire quarter of college plus books for me. That's 15 credits for people who are counting.

Don't you just LOVE things put in random, non-sensical perspective.

(And I don't get paid a lot, actually.)

They won't let Greg use guest comics. It has to be his comic, drawn by him. They also will allow him to post it in the forum if the server crashed or something. But only for a day or something.
