Commentary on Government
Commentary on Government
I've read the comic for a long time now, read the posts for a pretty long time too, but never found the need to post. However, after reading today's comic I must say I will be a reader for life, perhaps even beyond!
I'm not sure if the point of todays comic was Greg's commentary on the government, its controls, laws, secrecy, etc., or if it that is really just the kinds of things that Tony would say in "Real Life". Either way I think it is one of the most accurate and truthful commentaries on the kind of 1984-esque things that are going on behind the scenes and right in front of our eyes!
I really hope the entire comic doesnt turn into a commentary like this, because the fact is, Greg and the rest of the gang is far too funny not to let it out, but I think sometimes, things like that need to be said.
Then again, it may be just for the storyline and have no significance beyond that. If so, oops, I made a mistake. But I doubt it.
Keep up the great work Greg, and remember you've now got a fan til beyond the grave!

Yeah, the government sure is an easy target, isn't it? I mean, it's the people who elect its officials into office to represent them, but somehow, it's never the people's fault whenever those officials do something they don't like because no one told them to do otherwise. And it sure is mean of that goshdarned government to have laws to make it harder for the mentally imbalanced to kill everyone else. Yeah, it's definitely about power, no question about it. Because, see, if it's about the government and everyone in it just wanting power, that way we can complain about shady behind-the-scenes plots and blame them for everything we don't like without having to deal with the reality that we dig the ditch through our own indifference and ignorance of what those who we vote to represent us (or are supposed to vote) are doing.
Hooray for Tony. Once again he manages to make the comic dull and laughable. Would it be all that much to ask Mr. Dean to make a real effort at writing his comic rather than just half-heartedly relying on unoriginal Tony story-arcs whenever he's not in the mood to do anything involving actual plot? The "character", if you can call such a shallow device such, of Tony, with his refusal to develop any interesting traits rather than just relying on the 100% exact same gimmicks he's used for several years with no originality, makes me wonder if Mr. Dean doesn't actually get writing advice from 8-Bit Theater's Brian Clevinger. The total lack of talent for originality is nearly identitcal.

If you don't like it, piss off and read something else. Better yet, why don't you show us all YOUR comic and YOUR stories. Lets all see how much effort and creativity YOU are prepared to put in for free. Lets see if YOU can keep EVERY SINGLE STORY as origional and fun as Greg keeps his. Lets see if YOU can build up a fanbase of thousands of people.

The great thing about that argument is that it never actually has any basis on reality. I'm not the one trying to pass off bad writing and unoriginal philosophies on government designed solely to draw in ignorant kids who like the idea of not having any responsibility for bad things in their lives. Mr. Dean's that one.
Tell me, little boy/girl, have you ever disliked a movie? TV Show? Book? Magazine? Comic? Cartoon? Anime? Game? Anything? Well, according to you, you're not allowed to dislike it on any level until you've created something of its medium which is superior. That's right, you're not allowed to dislike that Catwoman movie, because, see, you haven't made a movie yourself, so you're not allowed to think that any part of it was lame. Oh, and that old Cher song that sounds like crap (you know...any of them)? Unless you've recorded a song you alone sung, you're not ever allowed to think it's less than awesome. Because, see, your philosophy is just THAT awesome.

Ess Tii Eph Yu, what you will find is that while yes you are entitled to your opinion, your trying to tell people in a forum that enjoy and do like the comic that it is bad.
If you dont like the comic, show your dislike with your feet, walk go leave and never come back. I very much doubt anyone here will miss you and your amazingly mature grasp on reality.

You're the one reading it. And browsing the forums. Heh.
Clever posting name, though. You must be proud.

STFU, are you still here? Why? Why are you hanging around the forum of a comic you hate? As far as not being able to say something is crap. I never said that. I can say your review for example, is pure dribble.
I'm just pointing out that your opinion is hardly an expert one especialy in the light of the thousands of people who DO like the comic. Besides, even if I was saying "You can't bag entertainment unless you've made it." Which I didn't. But even if I did, that's no more ridiculous than saying "You can't bag a government unless you helped participate in it's decision making process." Which is basicly what you said. So even if you did participate in the decision making of the US government, (by voting I assume) then that would be the only Government you could complain about. You certainly couldn't complain about the Chinese government's human abuse violations for example.
I didn't vote in the last U.S. election because I'm Australian. But that didn't stop me letting out a groan when I heard Bush won. I believe complaining about our governments helps keep them honest. If they thought they could do whatever they wanted and no-one would say anything we'd all be in some serious shit. And while I don't take all the cloak and dagger stuff seriously, it's pretty clear from your zelously patriotic post that you took offence. It's a joke. Get over it.
Oh and for the record, I'm 28.

I'm not qualified to be Prime Minister, but the law says I have the right to choose who is.

Damn. They're on to me. I secretly sit around thinking "Hmm, wonder how I can draw in those ignorant kids? I know! I'll go on some anti-government rant!"
Listen, this whole story arc wasn't me trying to comment on ANYTHING. It was a natural progression of the character. Tony's been doing some crazy shit, and it was bound to piss the government off eventually. But I'm not doing the comic from their perspective, I'm doing it from HIS. And HIS perspective wouldn't be very positive of the government, would it? I'd like to think I have at least a little more faith in the people running our nation than that. But that wouldn't be true to the character.
Fact is, not everything I write is necessarily a straight reflection of how I feel on a subject. Sometimes, I'm just writing things i think the characters might say. So chill out.
