I've just noticed something... (Full Metal Alchemist)

Post by FireAza » Tue Mar 22, 2005 1:27 pm

I was looking over some recent episodes of Full Metal Alchemist then it hit me. "Where's Edward's red jacket?" I looked back a few episodes and I noticed that it's been missing since episode 35, after that he's never worn it again. It's not like it's too damaged to wear, after all it's been ripped plenty of times but is repaired in the next episode. I don't think the animators have forgotten about it, as it's also missing in the new opening sequence. Any theories on where it's gone? BTW, if there is is a story behind the MIA jacket, don't tell me, I've only seen up to episode 47 ;)

Yes, the fact that Edward wears something under his red jacket is a total spoiler :happyroll:

Yeah! And now I have to go meditate or something so I can get this terrible spoiling information out of my mind!

In the meantime I'll have to write Thursday down in my planner because I didn't watch on Saturday. Boo.

Watch? Ah, you're watching the dub on Adult Swim? What's that like? I read an interview with the guy who plays Edward, and he seems to understand the character, but does he do a good job? And did they give Major Armstrong some kind of snobby British accent?

Yep, watching the dub. I'm enjoying it, and people who have seen the original and the dub say it's good, but I honestly don't know, for I am unlucky.

I guess the fellow who plays Ed does a good job. I'd love to see the original so I could compare, but that require some sort of fancy speedy Internet connection that I probably will never get.

And Major Armstrong does not have a snobby British accent (I think. I haven't heard a British accent recently). His voice was not what I was expecting at all, either, though I don't know what I was expecting.

Yeah, it's not british, but it's kinda self-important, kinda like "Look at me, I'm a god with a great heritage!".

NOOOOO!!! The only reason I wanted to see the dub was to hear what should have been a high-class British noble voice for Armstrong! How could they?!

Eh. British nobleman isn't really what I would expect from Armstrong. He'd fit more with the British accent I have dubbed "Member of the Royal Admiralty." You have to get very specific with accents, you know. Like, the kind of voice you would picture belonging to an old guy fully decked out in British naval garb, with a nifty hat and a pipe. While Armstrong doesn't fit that description, that's still the kind of voice I would picture him having.

I was thinking that safari "tally-ho!" style of British accent, only lower and less nasal. And of course with the wobble to his voice that Armstrong has.

Its not flagrantly British, but you can definitely detect British influence in Armstrong's voice. Oh, and the boisterousness... can't really miss that.

I'd say this definitely tops the quality of most dubs. Ed is angsty and neurotic, Al is innocent and somewhat hapless, Scar is dark and gritty, and Lust is... well... mmmm. My only complaint would be with Gluttony's voice. For a deadly sin, he sure sounds a lot like a damned crackhead.

Well, even in the sub, Gluttony had a very high-pitched, odd sounding voice.

The voice for the Nina Chimera was so dead-on perfect it made me shiver in my chair.

Granted, she only had, like, three lines, but ... FUCK.

But yeah, I'm impressed with the quality of the dub. All the people in blue have good voices ( I think Riza Hawkeye's is the most, well, dead-on, heh ... ) ... except Huges. But then again, no one could live up to the Original Hughes-sama.

I really wanna hear how his daughter sounds, 'cause that's gonna drastically effect one of the best scenes in the series ...
