Better than 2GB Gmail, it's GoogleGulp!

Post by nessin » Fri Apr 01, 2005 5:34 pm

In the age old tradition of Google, they have released new information on services and upcomping products... on April 1st...

http://www.google.com/googlegulp/

(As good as this one, I still like their PigeonRank system from 2002: http://www.google.com/technology/pigeonrank.html )

... I had a nightmare last night where Google and GE had a merger and took over the world ... and then I get up and see THIS. Even as a joke.

Haha. What a world.

Google Gulp and Your Privacy
From time to time, in order to improve Google Gulp's usefulness for our users, Google Gulp will send packets of data related to your usage of this product from a wireless transmitter embedded in the base of your Google Gulp bottle to the GulpPlex™, a heavily guarded, massively parallel server farm whose location is known only to Eric Schmidt, who carries its GPS coordinates on a 64-bit-encrypted smart card locked in a stainless-steel briefcase handcuffed to his right wrist. No personally identifiable information of any kind related to your consumption of Google Gulp or any other current or future Google Foods product will ever be given, sold, bartered, auctioned off, tossed into a late-night poker pot, or otherwise transferred in any way to any untrustworthy third party, ever, we swear. See our Privacy Policy.

I so want some Beta Carroty. I'm not getting nearly enough essential vitamins out of my primarily carnivorous diet.

But they don't mention giving it away to trustworthy third parties. And what if a trustworthy third party suddenly goes untrustworthy? I demand we boycott GoogleGulp until they promise not to give our information away, even to trustworthy third parties!!

Hehe - from the FAQ

Customer: I mean, isn't this whole invite-only thing kind of bogus?

Google: Dude, it's like you've never even heard of viral marketing.

awesome

This one was even better:

5. Well, shouldn't Auto-Drink™ be default-off?

You mean we should cripple a perfectly useful feature just because of a little bad PR?

That should be the poster child statement for Microsoft!
