Ask a Trainer
Inspired by a discussion in another thread, I wanted to open this up for anyone who'd like to seek some advice or just get some guidance about health related subject matter.
I would prefer if any commentary on personal conditions could be kept to a minimum. It's very difficult for some people to discuss personal health and to have their conditions trivialized would be insensitive.
Well, that said. Ask away! I'll do my best to answer things myself, if I cannot, I'll do the research and ask the professionals I know about what they think. Don't worry. Everything is a confidential as you'd like.

As promised in a post below...
INDY's 7 Rules of Healthy Living:
1) Do anything and everything in moderation.
2) Laugh a lot and make others laugh more.
3) Drink plenty of water, at least 2 liters a day.
4) Eat a variety of foods. (Don't limit yourself with a diet, just refer to Rule 1.)
5) Get plenty of sleep, but refer to Rule 1.
6) Exercise everyday: body, mind, and spirit.
7) Learn from the past, live in the present, look to the future!

I don't care who's right, who's wrong, or what you meant to say. Only thing I care about is the Truth. If you have it, good, share it. If not, find it. If you want to argue, do it with someone else.
Any exercise suggestions for the lazy/time restricted?
I'd like a six-pack but the thought of all those sit-ups makes me reach for another beer
/me takes away Rors beer so he can do sit ups
I do three sets of fifteen every morning and evening, but you have to remember to stretch the muscles out before and after the sit ups, or they'll cramp up a few hours later. Great for developing the stomach muscles if you stick with it.
Of course, I also do another half hour-hour of karate every day too...

Here's one, most of my body is developed enough that I'm happy, even though I'm nowhere near the Governator, except my chest, which refuses to bulk up. Any excerises I can do at home that will help with that? If not, what gym excersises (and don't say bench press or incline, cause I've been doing those for years and it's not working).
Power. Wisdom. Courage.
Question: is it true that most bone breaks in the foot don't show up on an X-Ray.
I am, in no way, an expert in medicine. I am trained to focus primarily on exercise training. However, I did some research and ask a practioner and the simple answer is:
Untrue. Most bone breaks DO show up. An X-Ray should even pick up where the bones are most stressed.
I wish I had more, but I really don't. I would suggest that you seek the advice of a medical practioner and share your situation with them.

EWW!!! Sit-ups?! Unless your body is already trained to help support your back during sit-ups, they can be very harmful to your back and neck.
Rorschach, your situation is not unique, however, it is very dear to me because I was in the same place not too long ago. I'm giving your situation some serious thought and will have a full plan for you in a couple of days or so.

I'm guessing you've got some very strong triceps, Dark!
The pushups that gravity suggested would be nice, but they might do more shoulder work. Let me find some strict chest ones for you.

I'm never doing another sit up again!

I don't believe he's correct on that, Catine. Sorry. Just so long as you take care to assume the proper position when exersizing, that is, on a padded surface, arms behind head to support it, there's no risk at all. I had some fitness instruction from people at my college.

I need to find out if this is true or not. During the laughably short gym career I had, I was advised not to link my hands behind my head as you tend to pull yourself up with your hands and strain your neck in doing so.
Unless of course you mean just leaving your hands by your ears without actually holding onto your head. Or unless I was misinformed, which is equally as possible
Hmm...seems to be too many opinions for this to be a safe form of exercise. Where's my bottle opener?
