Speaking of running, is it true that
A: Walking is as good a workout as running, and
B: Swimming is a better workout than anything involving just bipedial locomotion?

Gravity - about your foot - you might want to look into orthopedic inserts, professional ones. I got a set (~$100) custom molded to my feet 2.5 years ago and it made all the difference to my high arches. They are supposed to last about 10 years. Since it's your arches that you indicated were causing trouble, you might look into it.
Indy - you may have answered this - but how do I get rid of my kangaroo pouch? I haven't even had kids yet, I would hate to see what it looks like then!

First off, I need to update that part of my site. I'm actually in a maintenance phase right now, so I'm not doing that same routine. I'm planning on programming a web-based exercise routine generator, but I have a few larger things to deal with first.
As for what a set is... a "set" is a number of repetitions (reps). So any number of reps done in a row is a set. 3 sets of 10 reps = 30 completions of said exercise. Understand?

My fiancé and I were just discussing this subject last night. The body is especially maliable around pregnancy, so the main thing to keep in mind is that "you CAN lose the 'kangaroo pouch'".
The first step is to regain a healthy self-image. You need to do things that make you feel good about yourself. Once you reach that point you can begin to add to your exercise routine. NEVER over exercise yourself. Listen to your body when it tells you to stop!
You'll want to keep a daily routine, doing exercises which continue to make you feel healthy. When dealing with women who are or have been recently pregnant, there are a few things to keep in mind: (1) you'll get plenty of exercise taking care of a baby, so don't over do it! (2) Baby comes first. If you're breast feeding, pay attention to the feeding diet rather than a weight loss diet. (3) It's all about feeling good about yourself. Once the baby is no longer directly reliant on your body's functions for its own survival, you can begin exercising for yourself.
Losing weight takes time, know that a work towards a long term goal NOT immediate turn-around promised by fad dieting.

StruckingFuggle, technically walking and running the same distance is supposed to burn the same number of calories, though it's not EXACTLY the same. Running will get your heart rate much higher, get you breathing and sweating, move all your muscles (arms are pumping, for instance, not just hanging by your side and swinging gently back and forth), build endurance and lung capacity, and is generally much better as long as you're in the kind of shape that can take it (an 83-year-old grandmother with osteoperosis would probably find better ways to exercise than running). Swimming is great exercise and is usually easier on joints, as well. For running, I would suggest good running shoes and softer surfaces where you can get them, such as on grass instead of concrete. Softer surfaces are easier on the joints, and sometimes they provide more resistance as well, meaning a better work-out.
The follies which a man regrets the most in his life are those which he didn't commit when he had the opportunity. - Helen Rowland, A Guide to Men, 1922
Re: Ask a Trainer
No, Indy, I think I phrased that wrong. I have a kangaroo pouch. I have never had children. I am not currently pregnant. I have never been pregnant.
What kinds of excercises will specifically work it down? Crunches seem to just tone up the muscle but don't do anything to the fat. Cardio seems to just take away the fat from other parts of the body (namely, the moving parts?) So how do I target it?
