Guild Wars
Guild Wars
So I just bought Guild Wars. Anyone else here have this game? Its the first of these crack like addicting games I've bought.
I created a necor/warrior. This might have been a mistake, but I think its cool none-the-less.
My character on there is Lazurus Aeris.
Anyone else?

Does Guild Wars have a monthly fee or anything to play on their servers? Because I've had nearly all of my friends offer to lend me their spare copies (a few were in some sort of beta and one got given three copies by different relatives) and I'm thinking of playing, but I don't want to pay a monthly fee.

I find Guild Wars to be lacking something ... i can't pin it down ... but reguardless i can get hooked by it it makes everything so easy ... if i want to go to a town i just click it on teh map if i want to exit i click the X in the top right. At no point am i really in a Risk situation. I can always graba henchman lackey or solo ... or stumble around confusedly with the crafting system. But i dunno i was addicted to WoW for 4 months. and i can't even play Guild Wars for more than 30 minutes before it gets borring :/
I guess it comes down to no risk.

It may be the lack of permanent death penalty... Im not sure about other MMOs, but GW has absolutely no permanent DP, no money loss, no exp loss, nothing. So, while dying makes the mission you're trying to beat harder by temporarily removing HP and MP, you can always just go back to town and try again...
That being said, I really like the game, and I don't think its justa 'glorified diablo'. Its quite well-done, I think, and the instancing helps set it apart from other MMOs... I think that many traditional MMO players will find things to dislike here, but there are a lot of elements which I think are very nice, such as the teleportation features, the PvP characters etc.
Note: I was wondering if Greg's ever tried GW? *cough*
EDIT: My char - Elementalist/Mesmer 18 (Merim Yenth)
