ummmm atm I'm not really putting much on my computer cos I know I'm going to be getting rid of it sooner than later (teh computer, that is)
AIM + MSN, but I might just switch to Trillian soon
Photoshop
Dreamweaver
Fireworks
Flash
because I sometimes just have this sudden urge to do picture editing and web-page stuff and I like to have all the stuff I need right at my fingertips
Winamp (with Shoutcast plugin for DJ'ing)
More stuff that I can't remember right now...but probably just as important

Notes about this post:
($$) - denotes not free
($F) - denotes not free, but I get for free/discounted because I'm a student.
($$) Trillian - For communication. Currently using 3.0 Pro (yes, I paid
)
PuTTY - I used this in my UNIX class (we have a UNIX server here that we use....final project was to develop a simple web app in Perl or Python).
Paint.NET - It's like photoshop had Paint's baby. It kicks arse.
($F) VisualStudio.NET 2003 - I'm a programmer....it's....what...I...use....
($F) Visio - I'll probably get to use this more next semester....but so far I've been using it for UML diagrams. It goes hand-in-hand with VS.NET
($F) Office (Word etc)
Winamp - Music
Firefox - Browser
Thunderbird - E-mail
Ad-aware - Scanning for ad-ware
($F) McAfee - Anti-virus
Finale Notepad - Music composition
JCreator - Java programming
Textpad - A text editor I use for programming/coding in languages not supported by VS or JCreator (examples of what I've used it for in the past: MIPS assembly and UnrealScript). Can run stuff like compilers and makefiles if wanted/needed.
Notepad - Brainstorming new game ideas, writing quick notes about various things etc

Firefox 1.0 (It is my first install on any cleanly installed system).
Winamp 2.whatever - Sooo much faster than the new winamp. I like a player that plays music. Not one that has an interface that can reprogram my VCR.
Putty - Because Windows si teh suck. Gotta keep connected with my Linux box.
GAIM - For AIM, ICQ, Y, MSN
DScaler - For my home PC. Best Deinterlacing software ever. (For TV Tuner/Capture cards)
PC-Pine for email (Outlook/Express can bite me)
BBLean - Windows Explorer can bite me too. BBLean is much faster, and less intrusive. (Usually my second install)
SmartFTP - Best FTP Client I've used. And it's a freebie.
I also like to keep things around like Photoshop 7, GIMP, Top-Style, HTML-Kit or Textpad, and the Macromedia Suite.
I usually use WinRAR for handling archives.
I don't really believe in antivirus software (go ahead and flame, I will back it up). I usually have Panda AV around to do an occational scan, or to have running at LAN parties.

Believe me, I'd love to, but the university won't let me. I'd rather use NAV2005 or something better.

Since when can a university control what apps you run on YOUR computer?

In their network usage policies they can dictate certain things like what they require that you run, such as a packetfilter application (ZoneAlarm, etc), an AV, etc. This is "for the common good." Like requiring someone with the flu to stay home instead of infecting everyone else in his classes. They can also prohibit certain types of software from being installed, such as BitTorrent clients, Kazaa, etc.
