Comic 1451 - The FF7 Tech demo for PS3

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Comic 1451 - The FF7 Tech demo for PS3

Post by heavybass » Mon May 23, 2005 6:52 am

I saw the trailer for that, and reacted like that as well... anyway I reckon that it'll happen.

There will be a Final Fantasy for the next generation console.

I just wish it wasn't VII... which is my LEAST favorite FF of all time...

Well, ok, XI is my least... but VII is the least offline one. >>

That video is available for download on my site, if anyone wants it.

Got to say, neither the strip nor the video meant anything to me as I never played FF7 or any of the others. I just don't like consoles. I think that since the days of the SNES they've been overpriced toys with hugely overpriced games, targetting losers who have to have a latest generation hypergizmo or they'll die of terminal uncoolness. (Present company excepted ... partially.)

I did have an Atari VCS, though. That was fun.

I'm somewhat in agreement, especially after reading the article saying that the PS3's estimated price(yes, I realize it's merely an estimate) could be in the 50K yen range.

For Americans, that's $450 and that's utter BS.

But I saw that tech demo and I wept openly upon hearing that Square Enix is just invoking nostalgia to wow the crowds.

Now, if only wmv decoding didn't suck such enormous amounts of crap under OS X...

On the other hand, that is a very cool tech demo. Hot damn.

Almost makes me wish I'd played the original game :)

i coulda swore in the original, there was more of a crowd on the street and a few more vehicles when it showed Aeris trying to cross, but then again it didn't have the closeup pose of cloud after he jumped off the train :)

No It won't harpua.

On another note:
P.S. - This applies to Final Fantasy Tactics as well. Gameboy Advance games aren't good enough. You've got a PS3 - use the damn thing.
Thank you.

I would seriously kill someone to play that game for 5 minutes. After seeing that about a week ago I've been playing my old FFVII ever since, which by the way is still great.

Just to clear things up, that was a tech demo, and nothing more. Square Enix will NOT be remaking FFVII. They have said that flat out. They have several FFVII related projects, but a remake is for sure a no go.

No, Twigz - the remake is a no-go FOR NOW. They said they "currently have no plans to remake FFVII". That sentence is just LOADED with PR bullshit. :D It says "we're not planning it now, but there's nothing to say we won't in the future."

And if you'd read my rant, you'd know I knew that already. :)

Welcome to the world of consoles, my friend. You must be new here. Let me give you a little tip - both the PSX and the PS2 were projected to, and actually COST, that much when they launched in japan. They then VERY quickly dropped. Launching a console is a tricky business - the company almost always sells them at a loss. Where they make money is the software. Unfortunately, at launch, there's usually very little of that software out there, so they have to hedge their bets a little. After the console begins to sell well, and the GAMES begin to sell well, they drop their price. It's the way of the world - don't judge the PS3 on that alone.

We just can't get enough of Final Fantasy VII. "We" being every single RPG fan alive, of course.
Lies! :P

I stopped caring about Final Fantasy VII when I discovered the wonder, joy, and concentrated goodness that is the Suikoden series. I just can't go back to Final Fantasy with it's single, unalterable storylines, complete lack of continuity between games, and all the other glamor over gameplay approaches they take :P.

Even so, I will admit VII was one of the better games in the final fantasy series.

Edit: Then again, I just noticed that Greg is the prince of lies incarnate, so I guess I shouldn't be complaining.

complete lack of continuity between games
I've never really gotten either side of this argument of why this is good or bad. Final Fantasy games tell a complete story, that usually finishes at the end, having no need for a sequel. o.o So what?

(I especially don't get how you seem to somehow lump that in with "glamour over gameplay")
"He who lives by the sword dies by my arrow."

"In your histories, there are continual justifications for all manner of hellish actions. Claims of nobility and heritage and honor to cover up every bit of genocide, assassination, and massacre. At least the Horde is honest in their naked lust for power."
