Time Travel Flaws

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Time Travel Flaws

Post by Will-Mun » Thu May 26, 2005 7:07 am

Disclaimer: While I know that Greg had no knowledge, and could have no knowedge, I'm still gonna point it out because I'm bored.

Many moons ago, Greg and Tony went into the future to get Galaxies, Everquest 2, and new computer systems. There they met Future Greg... This future, was 05.

Now Future Greg never mentioned being married, which I believe is an odd thing. Also, in 05, Greg was sporting a cookie duster...

These discrepencies shall not stand! I demand answers!

Repeat Disclaimer: While I know that Greg had no knowledge, and could have no knowedge, I'm still gonna point it out because I'm bored.
"If 42 is the answer, whats the question?"

All who get referance will get cookie...
All who don't, will get shot.

Answer: The real Greg can't see the future, and therefore could not write his comic to accurately reflect his life in 2005 before it happened. Since the comic is a product of the real Greg's mind, and not a reflection of reality, the comic's accuracy to reality relies on Greg's knowledge.

There, discrepancies solved.

Because, if Future Greg had explained to Present Greg about his marriage, then part of Present Greg's experiences with Liz would be clouded because surprises wouldn't be surprises any more. For instance, if Present Greg knew that he would be married to Liz, then he would not have been nervous about proposing to her in the first place, because he would know she would accept. Then, his nonchalance could have put Liz off, and then Future Greg would not be married and as such would miss out on the love of his life.

So clearly, Future Greg did not tell Present Greg because he didn't trust himself enough not to mess it up.

Also, in regards to any beards, hairstyles, or clothing changes which might have, but obviously did not take place: obviously future greg and Tony just like screwing with their past selves. Honestly, can you imagine any joke funnier than the one you KNOW is going to work? Besides, when everyone else sees you pull that joke they'll think you're original and witty.

You know, plus the fact that technically the time machine doesn't actually send them forward in time. I could explain, but screw logic. Let's dance!

Also, how do you know future Greg wasn't married to Liz? The comic never expressed that future Greg was single. It could have just been an omission by future Greg to tell present Greg. Or, as starlightpiper said, he just didn't trust himself with the info.

I know I wouldn't trust myself with info similar like that...

Future S3: Hey, you're gonna get married to that cute girl, Sanzo.
Present S3: All right! [Walk off, extremely happy... only to get run over by a bus or something.]
Future S3: ....crap.

you also gotta remember, that time travel set is in the category of "completely fictional life" so you shouldn't be worrying about continuity :D
