Need some advice on this stupid laptop...

Post by Tagrineth » Sat Jun 11, 2005 2:40 am

I have an HP Compaq nx9500, with a 3ghz P4, half a gig of ram, and a GeForceFX Go5700... provided by my school.

It works fine for the most part, but the graphics (also on friends' laptops) are very temperamental.

I used to be a massive hardware/video buff but I've fallen out of the loop somewhat, so I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with GFFX Gos and has any insight on what I could do to get it to work properly.

I've tried HP's provided INSANELY OLD AND OUTDATED driver set and it works alright, but has some weird issues with some OpenGL applications...

And with Omega's latest driver set, transparencies in Windows and in games (especially Final Fantasy XI) are extremely panicky, and refuse to run correctly - having gaps and strange errors across them at random.

nVidia's reference drivers don't seem to support GeForce Go lines.

Anyone have any ideas?

Dear God! That's a hellva laptop! How'd you get your filthy hands on it? No, I don't know much about nVidia's cards aside from trying to download the latest drivers.

ForceWare drivers SHOULD work with that just perfectly, so...

ok well... I'm a lil out of the loop but I'm not completely retarded Deacon XD C'mon, gimme SOME credit.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/71.84_gefo ... orted.html <~ No GeForce Go's are listed... and I've had the installer sitting on my hard drive since the 71.84's were released, they officially declare that no supported products are in my system when I run them. ~.~ sux.

This is, indeed, a very nice laptop... but the graphics problems are driving me NUTS! :glare:

All GeForce cards work with the Forceware driver. Some idiot just left them off that list. Contact nVidia. They'll tell you how to fix.

I can't find a support contact anywhere on nvidia's site.

The ForceWare will not install on any GeForce Go systems; it closes because "no supported hardware was found".

Thanks for the love, nVidia. <^>(-_-)

Check their trouble shooting section and ask the question on it.

You can't actually "Ask" a question on nVidia's s(h)ite.

Gotta be the worst support I've ever tried to deal with.

Unless I'm missing something blatantly obvious, as usual. -.-

More stuff:

I downloaded a few recent nVidia ForceWare sets and checked the NV4_DISP.inf files, and found no references to "Go" series products.

I also checked them indirectly via the Device Manager -> Update driver... -> Have disk... dialogues, and the list of devices in the Update driver... window had not one single "Go" series card listed.

nVidia reference is a total no go. -.-

Not laptop chipsets. nVidia expressly does not support them, leaving that up to the laptop manufacturer.

Try Laptop Video 2 Go instead. These are basically the main drivers with minor tweaks (usually just to the inf files) and they may work. They work fine on my Dell.
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

Ewwww nVidia...

Thankfully ATI has made their newest catalyst driver set work with all of their products, including the mobile line.

Thanks, Martin. :) Exactly what I was hoping to find.
