I played the trumpet for 6 years and then stopped when I got to college. I have been playing the guitar for about 10 years.

Brim Mar is funny.

I played violin for approximately ten years and quit just before I was going to join the youth orchestra. I was such a stupid kid. I studied musical theory for about half of that time. I played the flute for a while, I think two years or so. I can get by on bass and piano, but I'm not great at either of those. I sing most of the time. I took lessons for about three years in highschool, but I didn't learn much. Once you learn how to breathe properly and all that jazz, you've pretty much got it. I was in the jazz choir and shit like that. I'd love to be in a band, but I don't know many people with similar taste in music that are good with instruments and aren't already in a band. I'll probably start a band soon though, once I'm moved out and have lots of spare time.

Saxophone since 13

Pit instruments (marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, etc) since 14

I guess I would put it into two categories:

Instruments I _can_ play:

Bass - played in a band for a few years
Trumpet - school band and a sca band
Guitar - not really interested in the guitars
Flute - school band and other choir stuff

Instruments I am good at:

Piano - released first album last year! Yea!
Organ - Best...instrument....ever. You can do pretty much anything with a good Organ. I play for my church every Sunday. My old chapel was a true pipe organ with over twenty-five stops....my new chapel is an electric. It still plays well though.

I played piano as a kid, used to be pretty good but I quit, now I'm relearning. I've also started fooling around with mixing/editing programs, slowly progressing I guess.

I'm... a band geek... >_>;; Trumpet, to be exact.

I've been trying to learn guitar for the past two years, but it's still not working... I can also play "Fake Wings" (.hack//SIGN) and the Castle Cornelia theme (FF1) on piano, but that's it. My left hand is not cooperative with either instrument. >_>;;

I totally forgot that I played bass in a salsa group for like six months. heh.

Being a band geek is great. It's SO much better in college though. If you do four years of marching band in high school and don't touch it in college, you're utterly and completely missing out. It's so much more fun, and people generally actually care about being there, so things move MUCH faster.

Hm. I'm definitely going to be doing concert band, possibly orchestra once I get out of high school. Marching band I'm not too sure about. They don't have a pit in the marching band at the college I want to attend, and I can't march because of my bad back (plus, I'd suck horribly at anything non-pit related :P)

Then again, the college I want is right near Reading, home of The Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps.

I would so totally try to get into the pit of that drum and bugle corp. I so wish I'd done it when I could have.

Actually, the corps I referred to takes pretty much all ages. There are women in their 40s in the guard, likewise men and women in various sections that are all way above their 20s, but there are also high schoolers and possibly even some middle schoolers, too. Shop around. Look for a corps in your area that might not have a strict "age out" policy. It'll be worth it! :D

I played trombone for two years, and hated it. (stopped 2 years ago.) This summer I'm going to try learning the electric bass.
