War of The Worlds - Doesn't suck!

Post by Zero_Point » Thu Jun 30, 2005 4:30 am

Well, went to go see "War of The Worlds" today, and all I can say is this: It has restored my faith in the big-screen. Not since "The Matrix: Revolutions" have I set foot in a theatre, but I felt that this was the one movie I had to see. And believe it or not, I wasn't disappointed. It also turned out to be pretty gruesome for a PG-13 movie, but other than that, it was 600% awesome. You guys HAVE to see this movie!

Good thing I didn't, 'cause I wouldn't have been able to see "War of The Worlds".

And at any rate, there's been talk about a "second Hollywood" opening up in New Mexico, though I'm pretty sure that's bullshit in it's purest form.

Don't discount it. While I have no idea if the New Mexico thing is true, it's so expensive to shoot in/around Hollywood these days, that alot of places are starting to produce movies elsewhere.

Good, the whole Hollywood thing sucks anyway.

Could have been done better.

It was good if you've never read the book, or heard Jeff Wayne's musical interpretation, the two previous US-made movies and the TV series don't count, they were horrible.

I loved the TV series!

But they were horrible, true.

Very intense movie, which I liked alot. The ending blew, and my friend tells me it's not accurate towards the novel.

Overall, I would say its definitly worth seeing.

Jeff Waynes's musical kicked so much ass. If the movie was 1/10th of the musical, it will be worth $10. I only have one question... the aliens, are they in tripods, or those lame-ass flying machines?

The ending blew? The same thing happened in the book!
*edited out due to request*

And it was as close to being "true to the book" as possible, while slightly modified for modern-day audiences and changed around only slightly so as to make it interesting.

Bingo. It was pretty much adopted for the modern audience. Quite frankly, I prefer it that way. I felt that the scenes of chaos and destruction would only have been as amazing as they were had they been in modern society. We've come a long way over the last hundred years or so and really, we invented all sorts of new toys for them to break in a highly awesome way.

I didn't even know the rating of this movie when I went in. When I walked out, I thought it was R but was shocked to learn it was PG-13. I should have guessed that to begin with, seeing as the budget was so insanely high they couldn't risk losing money off of not bringing kids in.

EvilPanda, what was it that made the ending bad?

Speaking of screwed up ratings..I saw Coach Carter the other day, and was quite disgusted to see it carried PG-13 rating.

But, yea, aliens dying from common sickness is pretty much how the book ends.
