Hello all,
First post but I am a long time reader of Real Life.
As a Londoner I felt obliged to let you all my fellow readers know what has happened this morning.
I have the following information from a source in the London transport authority.
This was NOT a power serge or anything electrical. There was in fact a serveral bombs set off in the london transport Network. 5 on the tube and 2 on buses. There has been reports of suiside bombers but this is unconfirmed at the moment. The whole tube network is shut, as is every mainline station in London and all London airports and Thameslink services have been cancelled until further notice. There has been many casultys and injuries to many people in the area. Reports of 20 fatalities but only 2 of these are as yet confirmed.
The Prime minister just issued the first government confirmation that this was a terrorist attack.
Thoughts go out to anyone with loved ones in our capital.

Watching CNN, I have the following information
Four explosions confirmed, three in subway trains, at or near Edgeware Road, Kings Cross, and Liverpool St. stations. 33 confirmed dead. The fourth explosion was in a double-deck bus downtown, unconfirmed number of fatalities.
In addition, 45 others were severely wounded, approx. 300 others with lesser injuries. London Underground is currently shut down, and downtown London mostly cordoned off. Response from Metropolitain Police and other authorities has so far been prompt and efficient. No credible claims of responsibilities, though Muslim extremist terrorists are suspected.
________
Personally I hope everyones thoughts and prayers are with the British people right now, I know mine are.

Re: Possible terrorist attack in London
I first heard of this at school as my teacher recieved a call saying his freind was down on our Tube network. She was found to be okay. We all watched it on the news, the scenes were upsetting.

Confiremd US terrorist threat level raised to Orange for specifically public-mass-transit ONLY. President Bush also urges the public to be vigilant but continue with daily lives. Federal Govt. stresses there is no need for panic, and there are no specific threats to the US at this time.
No update on London itself.

I remember talking on IRC when this happened, PST 3am-ish. It was bad then, and the reports were just coming in. The first claim was a power surge, but that quickly was denounced as other facts became apparent.
It really is sad that this happened to London just a day after they were all so happy about the Olympics.

I find it sad period. Sad, but totally expected.
Irrelevant sorta: On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, when the woke me up and told me what was happening I didn't believe them (my family).
This morning when they woke and told me London has had a terrorist attack, I didn't doubt them for a minute. All I said was "aw bloody hell" and got dressed.
How much things can change over a few years eh?
