Nice articles showing how games destroy youth.
An article from Game Revolution, and a letter I think? About the misinformation that the media gives.
These are definatly things we all know, but it's now backed up with some cold hard facts. I dunno, something to read if you get bored I guess.

The problem with the Game Revolution article is that it shows an overall drop in crime rate - those are nationwide averages and it would be hard to prove causation between that and video gaming. More convincing is the one line:
"To be fair, there have been about 300 studies on the effects of violent media, about 30 of which have been about video games. Most have found little to no connection, although some studies found a small, casual correlation between aggressive people and violent media."
In other words, if you want to prove anything, you essentially have to tailor your study to show causation, not correlation.
In any case, the real deciding factor on whether or not a child who plays violent video games turns to violence most likely (in my unsubstantiated opinion) is influenced by the type of home life: I.E. the Parents.
But seeing as parents don't want to take responsibility for their children's actions, it's much easier to blame some other industry.

I've read the Game Revolution article, but the "letter" was right on. Wow.

I think they're aiming (although they may not know or realise it themselves) to pull off what was pulled off for Hemp/Cannabis and Alchohol in the early 20th Century.
However, I'm hoping people are smarter now.

Did you imagine the final sound as a gun? Or the shattered windows of a car? Did you ever imagine the last thing you'd hear as you're fading out was a song?

I think that this provides a more reasonable look at stuff.

Nope. I remember the peak of the storm when roleplaying games - such as D&D - were first launched in the late 70's and early 80's and they were blamed for causing kids to get into satan worship, encouraged violent behaviour and caused psychological problems in kids.
We liked to think it encouraged imagination, helped build concepts of teamwork and comradary, encouraged problem solving and planning, and helped develop social skills and public speaking skills.
Most of the guys and girls I knew who played grew up to be successful, talented, capable adults...and only one worshiped satan...part-time...actually he just used to play AC/DC's Number of the Beast continuously, and wear lots of black. He's now an accountant. Honestly.

Heh, has anyone seen the Island? There's a scene where the two main characters are in a holographic dual (there's a big Xbox sign in the back, I guess it's supposed to be some futuristic Xbox) and then later in the movie the guy who is the head of the establishment mentions making them play games in order to manage agression...
Come on, this is a movie that takes place in the future. Obviously it's true!
