the lowest price in my town is $2.49/gal, but where I actually got gas last, $2.57/gal

I'm thinking of taking the long way home. I mean a savings of a whole dollar and change is worth the long trip out of my way in the rain just for gas right?

The gas station right where I lived: Free, that is they hadn't put up anything on the sign...

The steepest price you can get on mainland Norway would be about 9$/gallon, or 60NOK/gallon, 15NOK/litre

It would appear Norway has the second highest national gas tax in the world, second only to Turkey.

Just a month ago or so, the Netherlands was only second to Turkey. I guess it changes with the rise and fall of the price per barrel as well as the euro/dollar price.
