Nah, come to southern england. Don't live on a floodplain, and you'll be fine. No tornados down here, only one hurricane's hit the entire country, and all houses are made of brick, so they won't blow/float away, or rot.

As for donating, I'm not planning on. Why? Because I'm broke. Completely flat out of £, and no job because nobody is prepared to hire someone who'll show up the rest of the staff.
But frankly, America is full of people, and big companies, all paying tax. And it's got a huge big millitary reserve, just waiting for something to do. They can handle it.

Wow. You're a regular fucking moron, aren't you? Though Lith already answered your question, so I'll leave it at that.

(hooray for venomous first posts in months.)
I have no plans on donating. I honestly don't see the point.
"Here, you decided not to evacuate, have some money. Right, you lived in area below sea level, on a hurrican prone coastline, so I'm just going to shell out cash because you were fucking retaahded."
Please. Smart people don't live in natural-disaster/looting mob prone areas.
Some people are simply too poor to leave the situation they're in. And that's how it goes. People want a nuclear reactor, and where are they going to put it? Right in a slummy area, because rich people will move. But the poor people have to cope, because they're almost trapped where they are.

Habitat for Humanity doesn't give the money directly to anyone, though. They use that money to reconstruct housing. And even then, the person they're building the housing for has to put a certain amount of labor in it themselves. So I think it was a very worthy and just cause.

By the way, you fail at being Deacon.

Dear sweet Jesus, are you immune to sarcasm on here? Seattle's WTO rioting was huge, made national TV, and was in fact the event I was referring to.

And I'm not trying to be Deacon. The post is already filled, quite well, and I see no need to try and go for it. I just don't agree with donating to national disasters; just because you do doesn't mean you should go insulting me for it.
I would weep, but my tears have been stolen.

What you are doing is harassing Gravity. I'm sick of checking a thread and seeing you insulting, and/or attacking Gravity for no reason.

Calus, agreed. Euthanatos, I will begin removing posts if you continue. Management has asked to stop on more than one occasion.

Ontopic: I will be donating to the CCC. There's no need for me to post the amount, but I feel that since I received a sizable bonus recently from work, I have a moral responsibility to help my brothers and sisters. Give until it hurts, and all that jazz.

I donated some to the Red Cross after I heard about the SA problem, and paypal tie up.

Nothing major, but every cent counts, right?

While you're at it, maybe you should change his signature. If he's going out of his way to harass Gravity, I doubt the quotes he's taken from her and put in his signature are nothing short of just trying to be a smart-ass, too.

On Topic: I had actually donated $10 to SomethingAwful's charity cause. Unfortunately, as I mentioned in this thread here, PayPal was oh-so-kind enough to suspend the SA donation drive, and now no one knows what the Hell is happening to the money they donated through SA.

I also donated $10 to the Red Cross directly. As well, I have been considering, after seeing an article about it on an LJ community I frequent, taking in a cat that has been displaced and lost a home in the hurricane.

Blood is very much in demand. The medical situation has taxed the blood supply in the region, and they're pulling in from other locations, limiting those supplies.

I've been strongly considering asking the manager of the division if the company would pay my salary if I went there on a volunteer basis.
Actually, I'm not sure Jamie could donate blood because he's Canadian. I don't know a lot about how your guys' blood donation system works, but here they're super paranoid about mad cow, and considering the fiasco we had here a year or so back, I kind of doubt Jamie's (or any Canadian's) blood would be accepted.

I tried donating my blood (universal donor) after 9/11, but apparently I couldn't donate. You see, I was born in the UK "before or in" 1985 (In 1985, towards the end of it), which means my blood is inherently no good. Now, listen. Keep in mind I didn't really eat solid foods until I was what... 8 months old? By then it's already 1986. I'm pretty sure my parents never fed me any raw ground beef before I was 2 at least.

Yep, I have a friend in your exact same situation, and she can't give, either. It seems kinda over-zealous in a way, but it's better to be safe than sorry, especially during a blood transfusion.

Jamie wouldn't be allowed to give blood simply because he isn't a US citizen. Being from Canada, or having visited it, doesn't ring any bells at all for blood donation. Canada has strict food safety laws enforced, so the question of being out of the country does apply to visiting in Canada, but they'll take your blood without hesitation.

Your forget, Washington state and Oregon state have both had mad cow scares.

/me used to donate blood on a very regular basis, so I know the current code to within the past year.

Unfortunatly, alomst any other country is on a watch list. My aunt can't donate because she's from Africa, and my uncle can't donate because he lived there for many years while part of the Peace Corps. Europe is straight out, which has eliminated a good share of my relatives as well.

Japan is still on the safe list, if I remember correctly. So mikehendo can donate.

/me encourages everyone who can donate to donate blood on a regular basis, because blood is always needed. Especially for type O people.

Yes I gave money. But the amount is a mystery :shifty:

I also gave money for mothers in Beslan at the same time. Am I a generous person?
