My grandparents had given me a total of 150 bucks, 50 of which I was going to donate, but now it'll have to go toward materials for school.

Maybe I can donate blood. Is it in demand?
I don't see why anyone who's not needle-phobic or diseased wouldn't donate blood on a regular basis. It doesn't hurt, it takes half an hour at most, and if you're greedy they give you free crap. You can also have your arm bandaged with a smiley face wrap. Everybody wins.

According to what people have said, me giving blood wouldn't help a damn thing, because the US is too bigoted to take blood donated from european people.
Despite only a few people every dying from CJD in britain, and the problem being a mainland europe one.

It's not 'bigotry' that stops the US Red Cross from taking European blood. Ever since a number of people got HIV from infected transfusions in the 1980s, the Red Cross has been very sensitive to risks. Just in the last ten years, the list of conditions preventing someone from donating has grown much longer.
Generally speaking, you need to be 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds, and be in good health.
Red Cross donation requirements
Note that while there are numerous countries travel to which prevents a person from donating, Canada is not one of them. There is also nothing stated there about citizenship, and all I've ever seen refers to residency. I've contacted the Red Cross for information about the donor requirements in more detail, and expect to hear back from them soon.

If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

I just got a phone call about the work crew I signed up for. They want to send us to LA on the 17th to do some clean up work. Don’t know where yet, or what exactly we’ll be doing but it’s a good way to do my part.

Or England. The Worst we get is Thunder storms. However there has been funny weather this summer with there being a hurricane or two ... but thats even rarer. And before anyone says no it doesn't rain all the time >_<. Mostly during the Winter... we have nice sunny weather in the summer ... honest .... Just if you ever did come to England bring a brolly and water proof coat ... just in case you know ... But yeah. The planet Earth in general isn't really a safe place to live.
As for donations ... Yeah can you say blood from a stone? O_o

Martin Blank, thanks for the info
I'm getting a vaccine tomorrow so I'll have to wait before being able to give any blood. The only problem might be the weight issue, I tend to weigh around 110lbs so that might be an issue. Since I don't ever have any money to give for any sort of charity maybe giving blood will help some
I heard that you can donate air miles for hurricane relief. I'm going to see if I can find out any more info on that though.

We have a troubled youth ranch that only operates during the summer near my house. They have cleared thier schedule for the next couple of years and took in 500 refugees. It isn't much but when you consider the population of the area that will be supporting them is right around 10,000-15,000 it's a good chunk of people for us. Some businesses from Waco heard that we were taking on these people and made huge donations. One bottled water company gave 40,000 bottles of water and promised to give another 40,000 when it ran out. Don't worry, the ranch was closed this summer because both the well pump and filtration system craped out on them, a company is going to work on it for cost apparently.
I give to the red cross yearly so the rest of my donations will be blood and my time, they want us to go out and start making them feel welcomed to the area as the kids will go to our schools for free this year.

Even if some people couldn't move out, they still could have evacuated, yeah? Unless you were an abandoned cripple (and then chances are you're dead anyway), or in a hospital, or in prison, or an old folks home, you were probably able to evacuate and chose not to, and you deserve it if you die or end up trapped there.
...Well there's the people who evacuated, but had their livelyhoods and homes and posessions ruined and destroyed ... Is there any way to donate specifically to people who couldn't afford to move, and not to people who had the capacity to move out of one of the most ill-located cities in the world and didn't?

Wow...I was waiting for the impending slam to follow that up, meaning that I thought it was sarcasm, but apparently there was none. I'm shocked and pleased that you're as cynical about such things as I am.

No, there's not, at least that I know of. The only way I could think of doing that is to donate to a very specific cause that due to its inherent nature would meet those requirements. I cannot think of any. If you find one, let me know. I'd like to think that, while I know personal/sentimental stuff can never truly be replaced, homeowners would at least have insurance....Well there's the people who evacuated, but had their livelyhoods and homes and posessions ruined and destroyed ...
Actually, I'm not sure Jamie could donate blood because he's Canadian. I don't know a lot about how your guys' blood donation system works, but here they're super paranoid about mad cow, and considering the fiasco we had here a year or so back, I kind of doubt Jamie's (or any Canadian's) blood would be accepted.
Looks like I may be able to, after all, from what MB said...
Although I know what you mean first hand by the paranio about mad cow.... they confiscated my doggy beef chews from me when I crossed the border on saturday =( Poor puppy didnt get any treats.
