I just crossed 176th Street.

Long wait... over 1 hour... no big deal really. I had to park to the side because I had my dog, and they looked at my dog food and stuff, I dunno. A quick search of the car or something, too. The border gaurd I talked to obviously liked dogs, and seemed to be trying hard to be serious about his work... because as soon as I was in the clear, he made a big deal about how nice my puppy was, and he started talking to her and stuff

On the way back was another story, about a 1 minute line, I got there, ready to hand my passport, but he didnt take it

Gaurd: "Where do you live?"
me: "surrey"

Guard: "Whats the value of goods you bought while in the US?"
me: "uuhh... about 30 bucks?"

Gaurd: "okay go ahead"
me: "oookay..."
"Go get the Happy!"

Well, it didn't help that it was made of drugs!

I remember the border guard questioning my mother once about the legitimacy of both my brother and me. That was very odd. :?

Doesn't the passport standard for travel between Canada and the US go into effect next year, or was that in 2007?

When I want to Canada I crossed in Michigan, they gave me a hassle about not having a passport or Birth Certificate on me and made me clear through customs. On the way back I went through New York, got through without any issues.

According to my firm's HR department, a passport will be required for all travel outside of the US starting December 31, 2005.

No, there's not, at least that I know of. The only way I could think of doing that is to donate to a very specific cause that due to its inherent nature would meet those requirements. I cannot think of any.
Sigh. That's what I was expecting. Though it would probably be hard to tell who would be really deserving of aid, and who should be at the ass-end of or off of the list.

By the way, did you know there's still people refusing to leave? They're air-dropping food and water to them. Why? WHY?!

We just got a guy in my hotel who worked at some prison. He was evacuating prisoners and was just yesterday able to go find somewhere to stay. We comped his room, but he's still pretty much broke and homeless now. I shared my chocolate cake with him last night. Heh it was all I had.

1: As some of you may know there's an island group called Svalbard some 150km south of the north pole. In ths island group there's an island called Spitsbergen. The whole of Svalbard is concidered Norwegian, but the Russians have some areas up there. Because of this you actually have to go through customs to get into Norway from Svalbard. I don't know how it's in the states, but do you guys have to go through customs when traveling from Hawaii or Alaska and into the rest of the states?

2: There was an interview with a Norwegian woman living in New Orleans a day before the hurrican hit the place. She and her husband chose to stay in there house because the traffic out of the city was so bad...
I don't think anyone have been in contact with her since...

No, we do not go through customs when flying within the United States, and this includes Alaska and Hawaii.
