Comic for 10/06/05 - Stardate 59146.4

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

(not posting in 200 years makes you forget your password, m'kay?)

Id have gone with the Taurus (if it was the '05 version) but thats just me cos im used to my Mondeo :p
But you cant discuss taste man! I dont personally like the beetle enough to buy one but its not like a bad car either... I definetly DONT like that PT... and either the Vibe... plain looks, just rule them out.

And good luck to stardates ^^
Reason for ppl using different day/month types is language... in english you say "Saturday, july the 14th" right? in spanish itd be "Sabado, 14 de julio" (for example) so there... english -> MM/DD, spanish (and many other latin languages, and not only latin) -> DD/MM

For example: GREG, if you put that upgraded chip in your car, you will void the warranty and possibly shorten the engine's life... a LOT. So be careful what you do with that.
Bought it used. There IS no warranty. :) And I've got some buddies who are pretty hardcore into the VW thing - one guy's had his chipped for a long time, and loves it. I'm not too worried about it.

Dude, one of the main staff writers is a good friend of mine. I don't MISS that show - despite the fact that it's easily one of the funniest things on TV.

Gotta agree with what has been posted - either go DD/MM/YYYY or YYYY/MM/DD. Smallest denomination to largest denomination, or vice versa. Anything else makes no sense. If I sorted my comics by YYYY/DD/MM, they'd be all out of order. Logic prevails. :)

First to say, I already drove a New Beetle, wasn't the 150ps one, but the car for itself is definitely a just for fun car. more than two people are impossible to transport or you get your head crushed at the rear window. its suspension is from fabric a bit to low for parking lots with sideways and the interior design is ... well it depends on your taste ;)
Its a car for emotional people as you described very well in the comic ;)

and don't worry about the chip on the engine, they once put the same engine into a t4 multivan which a friend of mine drove for about 250.000 km with chip, the engine was fine.

but if you ask me, if you buy a volkswagen and want to drive and accelerate fast, then you have to look at the new golf R32 ;)

greets from germany,

Jonas

Ein volk. Ein wagen. Ein Fabriken! :shifty:

I really like the VW diesels, those are good engines, and reliable, and if they do break, the spareparts are cheap. :)
But old volvos are better because the ordinary gas station have about every spare part you might need. :P

Why, no, Deacon. However, as it's you doing the judging I can confidently ignore the assessment.

JeppZer: its hard to understand why everyone has to refer to this dark age of german history :( the volkswagen werk was build during that time, but the boom developed under british leadership of the company with help of porsche, so please differenciate (hope i can use this term in this context) a bit if you talk about a topic like this.

the diesel engines are in fact the better ones, don't know how they are accepted in the usa, but in germany the tendency is definitely going in that direction due to high taxes on normal gas...

old volvos need the spare parts more often than new vw beetles, so give that hint o greg in about ten years again :P

i heard stories about people being able to put over 600,000km on VW Diesels without losing a beat, and a friend of mine says they're almost impossible to break just on wear and tear

Just a warning to Greg, I do believe I'm going to come up to California to steal your car. It is my dream car, minus the Roswell alien decals I plan on putting on it. Seriously.

The new Beetles are such fun drives. I drove a friend of mine's around. My next car shall definitely be one.
Bah. Too lazy to come up with a signature. :P

It's humanity's way to laugh at terrible things - look how fast sick jokes seem to start circulating after tragedies occur
Call it a coping mechanism if you will

Also timely reminders of human atrocity (for which, btw, Germany has been far from the only culprit) is a way of making sure that lessons learned stay unforgotten and, hopefully, don't happen again

Dude, it's funny -

And besides, you started it [/BasilFawlty]

I say the 17th of May, etc. Hence DD/MM in England.

if not, I use YYYY/MM/DD because it's much easier to sort by date (including year) that way.

February was some lyrics or quotes month or something. I don't even remember what year all this was.

May 17, 2005. MM/DD/YYY

Or just YYYY-MM-DD (as I prefer).

You might want to squeeze this one back out. Displacement numbers do not necessarily indicate power numbers, whether horse power or torque.
It's actually kind of annoying. People don't like it when I spout random facts that contradict what they are saying.
If all your spoutings are like that one, it may be more that they're annoyed that someone hops in with misinformation.

You can do whatever you want, with or without confidence. If you go with your stated plan, however, it just makes you look that much more silly. First of all, when asked about power, answering with displacement is just incorrect. It's like someone asking how many square feet is in your house and you answer "Two stories." Secondly, what does "the original" have anything whatsoever to do with the current? Besides nothing, that is.
