I think they would concentrate on corporate tax as well as audits for corporations. It would be a hit for them as a lot of them do specialize in individual tax returns.
And H&R Block would go down the tubes.
Oh, it looks like there won't be any fundamental changes to the tax laws such as a flat tax or a national sales tax. Same old, same old until the issue starts to gain momentum somewhere.

Incidentally, rich people would LOVE a flat tax. Why? Most of them don't make as much as you think they do. Their businesses do. For instance, if I own a business I get to make the rules. One of these rules is that the business provides a car for the owner/president. The business also provides daycare. And for shits and giggles a cell phone.
The result is then that all of those things (car payment, day care, cellphone) are paid for by the rich man's business with pre-tax dollars. It never hits his income statement and therefore is not taxed.
Most rich people own a piece or two of property. All it takes to have a business to pay for the above things is to start a property investment company that owns your properties for you.
Since I have every intention of being quite rich. Please, institute a flat tax. For me?

You people dont have to write that down on your tax forms? Over here, if you say get a company car, they make you pay more tax.

Wow. Fuck Sweden. Seriously, I realize people from other parts of the world have different heritages and backgrounds and histories and such, but what is it that makes Europeans, especially Scandinavians, believe it's cool to take people's money from them? And yeah, stratospheric income taxes are part of it, but one thing people aren't mentioning here is the tax associated with every other little thing. Sales tax? Horrendous. Property tax? Terrible. Just piling on and on and on.

Well, in part it's just retribution because the more income you have, the better the chance is that it's not entirely fairly and levelly earned and you're making your money by taking it from someone else, so it kind of counterweights that ... combined with the fact that a lot of the time, chances are people with high incomes are benefiting a lot from the society they live in - c'mon, would Bill Gates have his fortune if he was born and raised Kenyan or Serbian? - so they owe more back to it for, if not helping, then LETTING them get so wealthy.

Can you explain that?
Can you explain that?
Wait, hold on. You're saying that Bill Gates owes you money because he was allowed to produce a successful product and build a successful company? Simply because you were born in the same country? I don't understand that philosophy. How does someone making wise choices and going after opportunities wind up owing you a disproportionately higher amount of money as a result when you've done nothing to earn it? Especially since you're ignoring the amount of money his company pays in direct taxes?they owe more back to it for, if not helping, then LETTING them get so wealthy.

He doesn't owe it to me, he owes it to the government of the united states. And one of their duties is, yes, to the people, so bill gates indirectly owes money to the people, in a kind of second-cousin sort of way.

Deacon, how about we just point out to him that prior to the civil war, there was no income tax? Same with the estate tax.

Pretty much this part. "then LETTING them get so wealthy."
It implies to me that you are saying there should be or is something in the way of letting people get that wealthy.
