He always tells people they'll "regret it". I just see in my head this crazy old white guy shaking his fist in the air...

Thompson retorts, tries to have everyone involved in Penny Arcade arrested for "extortion".
Smooth.
(he also got the url wrong, http://www.pennyarcade.com is a 403 site held by a squatter, famous for being once owned by an apparently deceased lapdancer, and not Gabe and Tycho)

Man, those guys make me laugh. Sometimes they are a little over the top, but this guy is really bringing it on himself.

"trained obsessively on the murder-simulator Grand Theft Auto"...?

I wonder if anyone's gotten someone who'd know what they were talking about, like some of the people who train police officers, to look at these video games and then say, from their position of authority, that it does not meet a standard of training quality to be a simulator, and that furthermore you can't gain anything useful from video games to use them to "train" ...

... though I'm sure that if you showed him how invalid his loaded statement is, he'd not only ignore that, but try to sue you for OMG MORE HARASSMENT.

Are you serious? Why do we need an firearms instructor to tell everyone that a game like GTA...or even America's Army, doesn't 'train' you do fire a real weapon.

No, and in fact, he can be sued for making threats about bringing suits against other people, if he does not in fact sue them.

For the 'weight of authority'. Because common sense usually isn't enough to get through to someone like Thompson.

See I walked up to a cop the other day while holding my PS2 controller and I started tapping the "fire" button over and over. when he didn't die, I just ran away. I wonder where my training failed...

Yes and no.

Suing someone for harassment via email probably isn't going to go very far. If, say on the other hand someone went way out of their way to harass Jack Thompson using the Internet, they could be sued for cyber stalking, but even that one is tough to pin down.

Not an entirely correct answer, Billf. You CAN sue anyone for just about anything.

As for if he has valid grounds ... that's something else entirely. Though I would imagine that was the intent of the question? ... there's still the unfortunate(?) fact of being able to file any sort of lawsuit you want.
