That was in ~1886. Before they, among other things, got run over in two world wars like a squirrel on the autobahn.

You'll notice that most american have a very peculiar approach to both history and epistemology...

Damn their logic! Right? If saving their asses by mass sacrifice in WWII is water over the dam, something to be noted in the history books but made largely irrelevant within the context of current events, then I'm not sure a statue from the mid to late 1800s is really going to count for much.

Geez, you people.

You didn't go to war soon enough.

You went to war for no reason.

Make up your damn minds.

I liked the whole part about the US saving france's and britain's ass in WWI. Right.

And Deacon, you remind me of a little thing Bill Hicks said.

"Bill, why do you keep talking 'bout Nixon and Reagan? That's so far in the past. Just drop it Bill. It's old news, just drop it".
"Oh yeah? Well you stop talking 'bout your f***ing Jesus then..."

That's what cracks me up the most about people like you, Deacon: the double-standards.

America sucks and then you get shot by a Jesus-Freak. France sucks, and then they surrender. Iran sucks, then stones you to death. Japan sucks, and then you get it up the pooper from a tentacle monster. China sucks and then puts you to work in a sweatshop. Africa sucks, and then you get AIDS before being forced to mine for diamonds, and THEN you get shot, starving in your little mud hut.

Frankly the WHOLE DAMN WORLD SUCKS.

There. The thread is done.

Strangely enough, both of those are applicable to complaints about the US from some skermishes fought in the 90's (possibly the 80's as well).

Australia has murdered the English language. And this is coming from someone who lives in BOSTON.

And California is its own little world.
