Language toolbar... wtf

Post by Kurosen » Wed Nov 09, 2005 8:33 pm

this seems like it should be an easy fix, but so far, ive not been able to find one...

whenever you install microsoft office, it seems to like to put that language toolbar on your taskbar... im trying to find a way to disable it from ever coming up ever... i can remove it easily enough, but whenever i re-start, it likes to come back. ive looked for things under msconfig that might put it up there, but i cant find anything... this is really just an annoyance i'd like to be rid of... thanks

Click"Start", then "Control Panel"

Hit "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options", then "Regional and Language Options"

Press "Languages" tab, then "Details" button

Choose "Langage Bar" button at bottom, and then uncheck "Show the language bar on the desktop"

Press "OK"

Maybe if you had a 30GB video iPod?! then you wouldn't have this problem.

This is ofcourse the correct answer. BUT, when that's not an option...

Uninstall Office

Now, if you really need office for something:

Uninstall Office, reinstall
Do a custom install
It's safe to install everything to HD for each individual app. You can also install all of the converters and filters.

Under Office tools, go through and get rid of everything you don't use.

Be sure to get rid of all of the options for REGIONAL and INTERNATIONAL, including the settings tool.

Viola! No language bar.

Depending on what you are running, you may need the language tool bar. I play Unreal 2k4 and it requires it for game play. It's what it uses for the in game chat feature.

I've never came across an instance like that...

Are you translating between languages or something?

I've used chat in most of the games I play, and have never needed the language toolbar.

Have you played Unreal 2k4 with the in game chat feature?

If MS Office is re-enabling the language bar, I see no reason why you can't right click it and hide as per usual.

Some people are content just to hide things, but others want to make them actually go away permanently.
