$1000/Month for Studio Rent that is Insane!!!!!

Post by sirloxelroy » Mon Nov 21, 2005 4:44 pm

Wow and I thought prices here in Lincoln Nebraska were bad. Before I bought my Duplex this summer, I paid $650/Month for a very nice 1100 Sq. Ft. 2 Bedroom Apartment with central air. Now I rent out the other side of my Duplex for $650/Month and even include free broadband internet. Of course it will go up a little next summer when I put in the Central Air instead of letting them use my 3 Window Air Units. It will prob go to $700 and then once I complete the garage $750. But that is for a 2+ bedroom deluxe duplex that has wood floors and formal dining room off of the formal living roomn with 8 foot celiengs even in the full basement and on the second floor.

Where is this studio?

Try prices around my area. Bergen County, NJ and NYC. They are even worse. The problem with renting is that you're "wasting" all that money. When you buy a house or an apartment, at least the thing can appreciate over time, so that when you decide to sell it, you'll (hopefully) be getting some money out of it.

Really, 1000 bucks in Spokane will get you a 3-4 bedroom 2 bathroom house, maybe on a double lot or with a great view or something.

You have to figure in that (hopefully) where rent is higher people are getting paid more. Even the differences between Warren and Hunterdon Counties in NJ are great regarding rent.

My house is rented to us for $1000/month and it has 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a double garage. It also has a huge, heavily wooded backyard that has plenty of firewood and morel mushrooms. If you cleared the land you could probably build a second house on the lot. But this is in a town in Illinois over 2 hours away from Chicago.

You could easily pay the same for a 1-bedroom apartment in NYC, if not more.

And just how close is that to the Nuklear Power Plant Shyknight, I'm not sure I could buy a house that size for $1000/month.

Oh right... only a few miles from the plant. I wonder if that has any effect on real estate pricings in the area.

Same way around here. Just depends on where you rent and who you rent from. I've seen studios go for well over $1k/mo here. But the last place I rented was a whole house, and I only paid $510/mo for it. Why so cheap? It wasn't on a main street, the driveway was narrow and unusable in the winter, and it was off of the bus line. Nice place, but just not convienent. Now I'm in an appartment (Still off the bus line, but much better parking). 2br, nice place, beautiful neighborhood, $490/mo.

That's California for you. I live in SoCal (the nice part of Anaheim) and we have a 1055 sqft 2bd/1 1/2 bth two story townhouse with a patio/small backyard and we pay $1330 (after the 15 dollar pet rent!) for it, and that's a steal here!

In Oklahoma my dad had a 3 bd/2bth 1500 or so sq ft rock house with a fireplace, 5 acres or so of land and he paid 500 a month. But Oklahoma is a cess pool so you really get what you pay for.

Let me give you guys some shockers.

One of my brothers friends just moved into a basement studio in July, he pays $750 PLUS utilities.

I have a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment in my house, which is just like every other house on the block. The neighbors are renting them out for $1200+ a month, not including utilities..

Want to rent a townhouse? Got 1800 dollars a month to spend?

Why? Simple - the housing prices are so insane that if you want to own a house, you HAVE to have a tenent.

One of my neighbors just bought the house next to us 2 years ago and paid 600K. That's over 2 grand a month on the note - the guy is a currency trader, makes metric fucktons of money, but until he got the tenant, he was hurting financially.

1200 a month will get you a 3 bed 2 bath house in Utah. Problem is wages here are not good. If you figure wages to what it costs to eat and put a roof over you head Utah is one of the worst states to live in.
