Mozilla Firefox
I don't know of any other forumites here have ever wondered the motivations behind all the promotion going into spreading FireFox. Someone, somewhere has to profiting by giving tons of money to promote this ultra-secure, well-updated, free, web browser.
I feel like we're being lured into a false sense of security, yet more and more techies worldwide are adopting Firefox...
Am I being paranoid?!?!?

also, look at the mozilla store sometime, that is where they make money. The browser is, by the terms of the licence agreement, completely free, and will remain that way permanently(unless they release a pay version that has been completely rewritten)
Its the same motivation as behind linux distros from companies. They have to give the software and code away free,
but they can charge for tech support, distribution, etc. All reasonable costs(they could even charge for the distro if they wanted, but would still need to release the source code and couldnt object to others redistributing it for free or anything)
OSS isnt a big scam, there are plenty of ways of making money from it, its just leaving the choice of whether to pay, ansd how much to pay, up to the consumer through things other than the software.

I'm still an atheist, thank god.

They make money on support, donations, the store, and google ads when you use the internal google search bar. There is nothing to stop them from charging for the browser. The GPL (or Mozilla license) as far as I know does not prohibit them from doing so, but I'm pretty sure they will not ever charge for it.

Part of it is the OSS creed, but a big part was also Netscape/AOL taking their shots. AOL put up a significant amount of funding, and I believe IBM contributed some as well. They were attempting to papercut Microsoft a few times, and ended up changing MS's browser philosophy.
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.
To answer your question in one word, YES.

Did you really mean that the answer is yes?

No.
Several things in that article are just plain wrong, or at least not entirely accurate. And some are just completely pointless.
It's a personal preference. They are both free, both fast, and neither one is IE. You can't go wrong. Just choose what you like.
Also, an IRC client has no place in a web browser, IMO.

Not if you like to play around with the browser source.
Which, believe it or not, I actually do.
(I actually have a couple of Mozilla source files open in another window right now.)
You can build extensions for Firefox. For me, that's enough reason to use Firefox over Opera. I can understand that people who don't like mucking with browser internals might not find that to be true, but, well, I do.
