The "new" server

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

The "new" server

Post by elenaran » Fri Jan 13, 2006 4:31 pm

I thought the new server last year was supposed to fix all our comic-connection problems, yet at least once a week I can't get to the comic. I'm not complaining - I just want to make sure Greg's getting his money's worth out of his server.

keep up the funny

Once a week? Lucky you. I haven't been able to see a comic yet this week.

I'll agree with that too...haven't seen a thing since Monday. And I'm going through withdrawals here!

I dont see it today, but granted.. would be nice if Greg had time again to make comics daily too. I mean I know he is busy, just sometimes miss seeing new stuff. I get jealous to all new RL readers who have TONS to read lol.

Greg isn't getting his money worth at all.

But that's because he's not paying for the server.

The only recent server change I can recall is that the forums--which are completely and totally separate from the comic server--are running on upgraded hardware.

Then you are just making a pointless statement Deacon?

What?

I'm saying that the server that runs the forums is totally separate from the server that hosts the comic. Also, the only hardware upgrade I remember recently is that of the forum server, NOT the comic server, thereby hopefully correcting the potentially mistaken idea that Greg paid for a server upgrade that's not delivering as promised.

I don't know how to make it any clearer than that.

The comic server was split out into 2-3 servers -- web, images, and maybe database (web and DB may be the same box).
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

There is a problem with our server. We have out-grown the two boxes we have running. We have a third server, but there is some problem with the ioncomix software and splitting it into another box.

I am as upset about it as you.
