Alternate link for the comic in SVG format

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Alternate link for the comic in SVG format

Post by Ryom » Tue Jan 31, 2006 7:59 am

This possible? Compressed SVG would be about the same filesize as the comic in png format except with infinitely better resolution. SVG should be getting more widely supported as browsers are updated as well. For a comic drawn completely in Illustrator as a vector, this seems ideal :)

I don't get it. What's wrong with the comic?

With PNG, you can't steal the artwork and use it in your own stuff, because it's at a fixed resolution and you don't have access to the raw vectors. With SVG, you can steal the characters and use them - wait, WHY would he want to use SVG?!

Wait, KaymeeraUnleashed, what is it that's wrong with the comic in its current format, again?

I think it's his way of saying "the text in the comic was too small so I couldn't read it"?

Nothing's wrong with the comic now, perfectly legibile, I'm just emphasizing Ryom's point after:
wait, WHY would he want to use SVG?!
*sigh*

KaymeeraUnleashed, if you read his post in context, you'll very easily discern that the question you just quoted was sarcastic, tossed in after explaining exactly why he specifically wouldn't.

Plus he has in the past done touch-up on the final raster version of the comic. You can't do stuff like that using SVG. Something like the Sky Dumbass series would be impossible in SVG.

Or give people that donate a link to get to the SVG version.

How about a big shut the hell up and enjoy the comic the way it's creator wants it to look. Whiners.

He's having a hard enough time getting the comics done let alone making them extra fancy and pretty for your asses.

Wow! Hope that made you feel real good inside. :)

Who are you?

By the way, the comic is done in illustrator, the newer versions can save directly to svg. No more work than exporting to png. Maybe some people are willing to pay for a scalable version of the comic. More money, and no more work. The only hitch would be if he has a version of illy that can't save to svg. What does it hurt to ask?

Don't worry, Ryom. Certain individuals here seem to enjoy the sport of flaming and newb-bashing. Don't let them get under your skin, since that's exactly what they want. They would enjoy nothing more than for you to come back with an angry response; it gives them power. They're like that battle robot in JLU that feeds off of anger and hate.

Instead, deny them their power by not responding to their taunts.

Personally, I like the idea of SVG images. I thought it was a great idea when it was initially developed, and I'd like to see more people using svg artwork on their web sites. It's just too bad that there are very few editors that do a good job of exporting SVG properly.

TomXP411, was that first half of your post sarcasm, or were you actually serious? My internet sarcasm detector seems to be on the fritz.
