Okay, so I have this theory that I came up with at work (hey, I bag groceries, I have a lot of time to think!!) Vulcans are the evolved form of Elves. Yeah! You know, Vulcans, from Star Trek? Stop!! No, don't go for the close window button, hear me out! My reasoning is this;
1. The ears. I mean, come on, they look almost exactially the same! Okay, whatever then
2. Both Elves and Vulcans have a great appreiciation fo knowledge and beauty and strive to live in peace.
3. Both are trained assasins. Vulcan Death Grip?! The whole bow and arrow skills!? WORK WITH ME!
4. Maybe the Grey Havens was actually a ship to another planet.
5. They're both races of supior intellect and greatly value self-control and dicipline.
6. Both have severe supiriority complexes.
7. Both have a great communication with nature.
8. Legolas and Dr. Spock have to be the coolest fictional characters in the history of fiction. They HAVE to be related somehow!
Any thoughts, I'd love to hear them!
Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it.

by your theory...
Mr Spock is a Half Elf. And if I remember right Elves in Tolkens world are unable to bear children with humans.. so there is almost no way the two of them could be related.

Perhaps he isn't related to the elves in Tolken's world. But what if he were the distant cousin from Tanis the Half-Elf from dragon lance?

document, I don't see how that would be possible. Tanis is anything but cold, emotionless, and logical.
In fact, I think the whole thing is (mildly entertaining) bullshit. Elves have no technology. Vulcans have no magic. It's that simple.
If the elves did leave middle earth for another planet, would they really have no memory of humans when we first met in First Contact?

Elves value freedom of expression, art, creativity.
Vulcans value cold logic, nothing more and nothing less.
NO WAY.

DUDE, Elrond is half-human!!!!!
And you call yourself a sci-fi/fantasy fan!!!
If anyone ever took the time to read the LofR or the Hobbit, they would know that humans and elves can breed just fine, they just don't want to very often.
That whole mortality thing, you know....

;
But, you are thinking about the Deathgate Cycle series. Humans and Elves can't cross breed in that saga!

They can breed, but they aren't really "half" elven. They embrace one side of their parentage, and stay that way. The children live longer, but aren't your typical D&D half-elves.

Don't you dare bring D&d into this!!!
Those asses ruied everything in third edition!!! I can't be my favorite character, part halfling (hobbit), part faerie (hobbit side of the family), and part elf!!!
No.... of course the DM wouldn't allow such a character to be ultra charasmic, a sorceress, chaotic neutral, and have a fondness for human flesh!!!
stupid little D&D creators, ruined all my fun!!!!

Well, people who are related aren't necessarily like eachother personality wise, although occasionally they are. I'm the artist of the family, my brother is the colder logical type. Personalities have nothing to do with family ties.
And Lithium, I agree, third edition screwed everything up.
