On a side note, how often are the cams updating? I just saw it update but it looks like the same picture.
The cams update every 20 seconds, and the page every 30 seconds. However, for various reasons there are occasionally hiccups in the cam updates (networking glitches for short-term stuff, and Greg occasionally taking his down so that he can move things around or create a comic).
Notes on the last few days:
On Sunday, there was some sleeping, and then food, and then kites were purchased and flown on the beach. Greg's kite (a pirate ship) took some effort to get in the air, but eventually it was flown successfully. Kree had the best performance with his kite -- while most were sort of struggling to one extent or other, his was stretched out to the full string length. Liz's was just plain ornery -- even when it was up there successfully, it wanted to lift things into the air and go bomb small children.
Poker has been discussed here, but what was not discussed (or much, anyway) was the viewing by us West Coasters of the sun rising over the Atlantic, which is very much a novelty for us. With Monday's approaching storm, it was a fantastic red, framed in clouds... simply beautiful. I have some good photos of it, I think. I'll find out when I connect the camera and copy them over to the hard drive.
The above-mentioned storm hit yesterday morning. We watched it approach from weather radar, and went outside as we started to hear the wind really pick up. The clouds were moving. Fast. We were watching as some lightning came down, and wondering when the rain was coming. In a few minutes, we got hit with a drop... then another...
...and then the downpour hit. It went from virtually nothing to FRIGGIN' RAIN. Within a couple of minutes, it was almost horizontal, coming down in sheets. Interestingly enough, the front porch of the house was dry enough that we could watch it, though it was a bit cold. As the rain settled down, we went inside and did stuff, until the decision was made to go bowling. As mentioned, Teran won (I think his score was around that of the rest of us combined), and then we went to a local place for some appetizers and local brew.
We stopped in at the store for a few essentials (*cough*alcohol*cough), and then came home as it became clear that another storm was nearing. We got to the house just as a massive electrical storm was really going strongly, and shut off the lights so that we could sit on the deck and watch it while sipping on various drinks (Deacon had Courvoisier, I had Glenfiddich, others may or may not have had their own), watching Mother Nature's light display.
After that, we came in and made dinner (spaghetti cooked by Deacon and me, supervised by Greg), and we had tasty stuff. After that was random discussion, and then a move down to the game room for Greg to get vengeance on Teran, with the assistance of my urging for weird things to race. At some point, I drifted to sleep, and then went upstairs and collapsed on the bed. At some point, Jez made me actually sleep on the right side of the bed instead of sprawled across it, but I still ended up with like 11 hours, far more than I usually get, and as much as I had gotten in the last four days.
So that's a synopsis so far. More kites come in a little bit, and some food tonight (hopefully earlier than 10pm, which seems to be our standard so far).
Wish you all were here.
Well, not all of you. enisoc would just have brought along an entire sorority house, and we just can't have that.
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.
