So, will this week be whole?

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

So, will this week be whole?

Post by Swash » Thu May 04, 2006 8:27 pm

Um... Mayhaps I could have said that a bit more subtly? I tried sounding bubbly and it must have come across as sarcasm or some other biting literary device. It's amazing what a few adjectives can do to distort, isn't it?

It's very hard to do a comic that updates daily, so I'm pretty excited about having a week with no missed updates.

The above wasn't meant as offense. I mean, this is one of the best drawn webcomics I read, and it's updated daily. I'm simply excited to be getting an update each day.

Swash,

Do you know how asshole-like you sound right now? Yes, its been tough for Greg to get comics up. Recently, it hasn't been his fault, it was the server's. Now that we are off the old server, things can start running like new. I think if you actually looked through the archives again, you would find a few more weeks where Greg did full weeks.

Actually, no. I just looked at the archive page to check, and not a SINGLE week this year has been 100% complete. Wow. Talk about a wakeup call.

I'm sure swash wasn't meaning to be an ass - probably just a misunderstanding. I can definately see how that post could be taken multiple ways, though.

Wow, just jump all over the guy for being excited. Geez, I expected a better responce, I for one am happy that Greg's found time to do the comic, same as Swash. I don't see a single complaint in his post and yet you guys all assume he's complaining about the lack of comics, seems like a dumb assumption to me.

^Is excited for a week of comics as well

I had this great, eloquent, and reasoned response all written up that would explain the problem with the post and the reason for the reply, but then Firefox crashed on me, so I'll just say that it's a sore spot and the original post wasn't quite as tactful and clearly non-offensive as it could've been, assuming there was no malice involved in the first place.

The first post reads to me as sarcastic and snarky. Even if he is excited, he didn't need to start a thread declaring the fact that Greg hasn't updated in X weeks. I'm glad he is excited. We are excited too. But it came across as mean to me.

Now that you mention it.

It's the title...it has wrong grammar for the feeling he wanted to express.

It can easily be read
"So, could this week actually be whole?"

Damn that can sound really bad. :shifty:
(also that reminds me of Chandler)

Lizzegirle, you probably wouldn't interpret it that way if it weren't already a sore spot, but since it is, it's an easy button to push. That's what my original post was going to say, more or less.

Well I don't know about you guys, but I saw no malice or sarcasm in the original post...personally it's the smily that makes me think it was not meant to be mean, if it was meant to be mean he would probably have used  or :? or :o or  rather than

I didn't find any anger, sarcasm, or any kind of negativity coming from the post, either. I think it's just a sore spot, so any kind of negative suggestion towards the topic merits an angry response even though his post was quite light-hearted. Especially the compliment at the end. It's a great comic that we get every day, not everyone can be so lucky.

Now that we realize that the OP has a properly enthusiastic comment, back to the reason for the thread.

I give my congrats to Greg for being able to update the comic as much as he's done, considering the situation. A big thank you goes to the new server too, as it seems to be doing an incredible job.

On the note of servers, RIP The Real PAL Server, you did the best you could do. Now if only comic PAL would make a comeback... :shifty:

I agree. Considering the hellish schedules they have right now, I'm thankful for what he's able to produce at all.
