Any band from the 80s that are still playing are considered ancient :P

inc my favorite band Depeche ;)

Um, NO. Wrong.

And Depeche Mode is not ancient either.

Depeche Mode is ancient, they've been around forever. Just under different names. Depeche Mode has been around since the dawn of time!

What's with all this hate towards My Chemical Romance? They're not even similar to Coldplay in any way, and they are quite talented as far as punk/emo bands go...

Any band whose lyrics read like my little sister's diary don't bring to mind the word "talent."

Note the underline. Compared to most of the stuff I listen to, they're barely worth considering.

A good emo band is like a single pretty flower growing out of a field of shit. Sure, it looks good when compared to it's surroundings, but it's still in a field of shit.

Bad analogy. If you pick the flower up and bring it to a grassy meadow, then it's a pretty flower in a grassy meadow. If you take a My Chemical Romance song out of context (the field of emo shit) it looks worse by comparison because everything around it doesn't suck.

More like, a flower made of shit growing in a field of shit. It looks kind of better than the shit around it, but if you take it out of the shitfield and put it with real flowers, then it's just a flower made of smelly crusty shit.

My friend Jake is one of the only five or so people I know with music taste as varied as mine, and he often introduces me to great bands I haven't heard of... but two of the bands he likes the best are just stupid, Angry White Boy Rock. It confuses me.

I don't know... if you judge a whole band by their lyrics... well then I guess you can say they suck but that isn't really the most integral part of their music seeing as how they're just lyrics.

Edit: Speaking of lyrics, I don't really get the little girl's diary metaphor... care to explain?

All the music you guys listen to sucks, unless I like it or think it's okay. That being so, please make a list of any music you like, and I'll go through it and tell you what is good, what is okay, and what is terrible.

Whew, I'm glad you showed up. This discussion was getting out of hand, what with everyone and their own opinions and all. Now we have a standard, and all will be right with the wold :D

(Nothing against you, Arc - sarcasm never translates well. I always enjoy reading discussions like this about music, because they're silly. It also helps that no one's gotten around to hating on ska yet, so most of my favorite bands are safe.)
I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just gonna ask where they're going and meet up with 'em there.

-nyr2007. Potvin sucks.-

Everyone either hates themselves or ska. If they hate ska, they dont listen to it. If they hate themselves, they listen to ska.
